CEO Chronicles: A Year in Review One year ago, I stepped into the CEO role at Medical Health Associates of Western New York, following long-time leader Christopher Tirabassi, who left big shoes to fill. It’s hard to believe how fast the year has gone—but looking back, so much has happened. ? Lessons Learned: From navigating unexpected challenges (looking at you, overheating data center ?????) to finding opportunities for innovation, this year has been a crash course in leadership, problem-solving, and resilience. ?? The People Factor: Early on, I was told my people-focused leadership style was “refreshing” & “not the norm.” That stuck with me. Healthcare is about people—our patients, providers, & the incredible team that makes it all happen. Creating a culture where people feel valued & supported has been a top priority. This year, we introduced a new employee handbook—one that (appropriately) includes bereavement leave for pets ????. ?? Growing & Strengthening Our Leadership Team: One of the most rewarding parts of this year has been promoting from within & watching new leaders step up. We’ve expanded our leadership team, invested in development, & strengthened MHA’s future. ?? Big Changes & Moves: We started our own Central Billing Office, successfully moved one practice, & expanded another to accommodate our growing patient base. Change is never easy, but our teams rose to every challenge with commitment & flexibility. ?? Honoring Legacies: This year, we also said goodbye to valued colleagues enjoying well-earned retirements. Their contributions helped shape MHA, & we’re grateful for their years of service. ?? The Unexpected Challenges of Being a Woman CEO: I expected challenges—but I didn’t expect to be called sweetie, kiddo, & my personal favorite, “the dainty CEO that replaced Chris.” Proving myself based on my gender & appearance wasn’t on my radar, but like everything else, I took it as a challenge. Leadership isn’t about stature—it’s about impact. And if this year has proven anything, results speak louder than outdated perceptions. ?? Stepping Into New Spaces: This year brought opportunities I never imagined—attending my first MGMA CEO summit, joining the board of New York Medical Group Management Association (NY MGMA), & learning from incredible leaders. I’ve been in rooms where I was the youngest, sometimes the only woman, but I’ve realized that perspective is an asset, not a limitation. ?? Looking Ahead: We’ve made incredible progress, but this is just the beginning. The future of MHA is bright, & I can’t wait to see what we accomplish together in Year Two. To the MHA team—thank you for your dedication, trust, & (let’s be honest) patience. Leading this organization has been one of the most challenging & rewarding experiences of my career, & I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Here’s to another year of growth, innovation, & putting people first! ? #Leadership #Healthcare #CEOChronicles #PeopleFirst #Growth #WomenInLeadership
