Unlike the old adage about the month of March, the year 2024 started out like a Lamb and instead ended with a Lion’s roar. The 2024 national and regional elections unquestionably ushered in a new era, portending significant change for the country as a whole, and no doubt within the walls of our beloved industry in particular. As we write this missive in early February 2025, we are witnessing the initial stages of massive change, both well-defined and TBD. Truly, a lot is riding on the choices of leaders, leadership, and policy going forward.?The Biotech industry requires wise national leadership and policy to remain a strong suit in America’s innovation economy – now, and into the future. Without wise leadership, as technology moves on at a geometric pace – our industry, our country can end up in a very unenviable place in a very short period of time. ? Arguably football’s finest coach and leader, Vince Lombardi, famously said “Winning isn’t everything, it is the only thing”. I was never sure if that was true in every part of life’s endeavors. There is absolutely no doubt, however, that this maxim holds so very true with respect to Biotech. Second best is not tenable for continued leadership. For our nation and the world, the new “space race” is technology, with Biotech being a major theater in the war.
