In 2002, when I traveled to Africa for the first time, my first port of call was here in Nairobi, Kenya. It was such a pleasure last week to accompany Raffi as he walked the same roads, connecting deeply with Kenya��s extraordinary leadership and progress as the country advances health for all Kenyans in the digital age. I am proud that the Kenya Ministry of Health chose the #CHT as the platform behind the unprecedented Kenya eCHIS. I am even more proud of the extraordinary Medic team, Living Goods, Lwala Community Alliance and so many other partners supporting the government every step of the way. Today, the demise of ��old aid�� is happening in real-time, suddenly, disruptively, and even catastrophically. I cannot bear the tragedies of so many lives and livelihoods are now at risk or already lost as a result. It will take a great deal of adaptation and resilience to navigate the sudden void - ~US $1 billion for Kenya alone. I truly believe that in the long run, however, that this is the best thing that can happen for Kenya and the many developing economies around the world. The US government has long been a critical resource, but also a center of gravity, inadvertently keeping countries on the ground instead of reaching for the stars. Development partners, as individuals at least, but aid reform from within has been slow and cumbersome. I have personally endeavored to ��do development differently�� through digital transformation for many 25 years - change has been very slow. At this very moment, I am sitting here in Kenya with the Community Health Units for Universal Health Coverage (#CHU4UHC) collaborative partners, listening real-time to Kenyan community health leaders respond to the sudden changes happening around us. They are not wilting from this new challenge at all, but instead rallying to the clarion call to innovate, transform, imagine new ways of developing Kenya��s health services and larger economy, seeing Kenya��s opportunity as a development leader for the entire region. Raffi��s visit also felt like a sea-change for me. For 25 years I have endeavored to engage and excite tech leaders in Silicon Valley and Seattle. It has been challenging to shift perspectives from developed, always-on environments and data jungle problems to offline-first, edge-of-network solutions solving data desert problems. As Raffi and I walked together alongside the Masai of Kajiado, with the visionary Kenyan tech leaders and government in Nairobi, and the community health leaders bringing these worlds together, Raffi continuously demonstrated a level of humility, insight, and understanding that made me proud that Medic has such exceptional leadership on our Board. You can see this yourself in the grace of his words. All of these shifts, happening now, herald new ways of working together in a new vision of global collaboration and cooperation. We stand at a time of great change and fear for many, but I am excited to see where this journey leads for us all.

The roles and work of community health workers (CHWs) are a global research focus. 2000 studies have been published in the last 5 years alone! Yet CHWs are often excluded as authors and key decision-makers in that research. This reflects systemic power imbalances and neglects essential local insights. What does it look like to throw out a process, and start from scratch? A few years ago, our Quality Assurance (QA) team realized our acceptance testing wasn��t working. QA engineers weren��t involved in developing code changes, and needed to understand them very quickly, creating overwhelm, burnout, and bottlenecks.
