Stanford Social Innovation Review has published “De-risking press freedom”, an article by our Chief Strategy Officer Patrice Schneider. Patrice considers how to fund, protect and grow public interest information and discusses a “third way” of supporting independent media, one that transcends the traditional dichotomy between state control and pure market forces. Patrice proposes a new model of ownership, an approach that has been embodied in the work of Pluralis – which is managed by MDIF – and its investments, one that offers important lessons for the protection and future of public interest media globally. https://lnkd.in/eKsTkK-E

According to the?UNESCO?observatory of killed journalists, in nine out of ten cases the killers go unpunished. What does this impunity lead to? A dwindling #democracy. We have witnessed this trend over the course of close to three decades of working with independent media around the world. The?United Nations?backed International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists is a reminder to all of us to aspire for accountability of establishments that commit crimes against journalists.
