Clearly current strategies aren't working. Joe Brence, Medbridge's VP of Strategy, proposes a new approach to addressing chronic back pain and other debilitating and chronic MSK conditions. I've been intrigued by all the latest research and talk on longevity lately. From Peter Attia to Bryan Johnson, it feels like there is more discussion about not how to just extend how long we live, but how well we live. After talking with Mike Studer about his book The Brain that Chooses Itself, I knew we had to bring this topic to a broader audience. In his upcoming webinar, he’s digging into the idea of healthspan—not just how long we live, but how long we can stay healthy, active, and independent. It’s fascinating both from a personal health standpoint and from the lens of how we support our patients in practice. If you're like me and find this space incredibly interesting, definitely check it out here:?https://lnkd.in/g7bwqMCJ

In pediatric rehab, lasting success comes from collaborating with families to prepare them for every step of the journey. In this episode of Pediatric Pioneers, Dr. Elise Bloch, a seasoned occupational therapist, educator, and advocate, joins host Nicole Quint to explore the power of Patient and Family Engaged Care. Elise draws from her experience as both a clinician and parent navigating the healthcare system to share personal insights and research to ensure that families are active partners in their child's care. I feel like we don’t talk enough about what we actually do to collect objective data during virtual evaluations. Everyone’s out here acting like they’ve got a flawless protocol — but let’s be real: you learn as you go. ??♀? ?? Here is my virtual assessment tip for balance work: Don’t skip single leg stance. I used to think this wasn’t worth doing virtually — too hard to cue, too much variability in setup, not “accurate” enough. Turns out: it’s one of my go-to functional screens now. Here’s how I make it work ?? 1. Tell them exactly what to hold: “Stand next to your kitchen counter and use 1–2 fingers of support if needed.” 2. Time it. But don’t stress perfection: “Start the timer when you lift your foot. Stop when you touch down or grab support.” 3. Don’t just watch — listen: Are they hesitating? Wobbling with fear? Hyper-focused on ‘passing’? That tells you more than the timer ever will. ?? ?? ?? Bonus: If they say “Whoa, I didn’t think I’d be this unsteady,” you just uncovered a motivator for care — not just a metric.
