IN LIKE A LION, OUT LIKE A LAMB . . . ???? ?. . . or the other way around? As we progress through the final month of Q1, many of you may be anticipating your approved budget, bonuses, or even a job or career change. Let us not forget March Madness, in which I used to immerse myself in my collegiate days! ?? These days, I am more focused on the beginning of the MLS soccer season. ? The month of March brings with it much anticipation and speculation in corporate America, but it can also hint of a fresh start. Much like Spring is heralded with foliage and flowers recovering from their Winter hiatus. If you suffer from allergies, I am sorry, but realistically speaking pollen is swirling around us all year long. Pick your pollen, right? ?????????? For me, this time of year is hectic, as the Spring “conference season” gains momentum. This means my already frequent travel ticks up a tad more. At least I have some respite from packing for multiple climate extremes in just two carry-ons. ?? There is a somewhat of a deceiving lull in the Summer, just before the second Fall conference season strikes. Then, the holidays, which never seem relaxing anymore. ?? Despite Punxsutawney Phil seeing his shadow on Groundhog Day (February 2), thereby predicting six more weeks of Winter, I am feeling more optimistic. I hope you feel the same! We have most of 2025 still ahead of us to achieve our personal and professional goals! #medicalaffairs #consulting #anticipation #optimism #q1done

BRACKETOLOGY “March Madness” is a trademarked phrase by the NCAA which immediately evokes images of drama, elation, and heartbreak on collegiate basketball courts nationwide. ?? However, for our industry, it can also herald the end of a meticulous evaluation of the previous year’s performance and hectic budgeting cycle. Looking ahead in 2025 with a myriad of personal and professional goals and objectives anew, there are many competing priorities. ???????? So, I thought it would be neat to organize some of these competing priorities in a March Madness bracket. At the very least, it is helpful to visualize all that we juggle each and every day in both domains of our lives. It is no small feat to achieve any of them in a year’s time! Best of luck to all those who immerse themselves in the fervor! Which one do you think will edge out all the others? Could there be only one? Movie buffs should understand this reference. ???? #medicalaffairs #consutling #marchmadness #bracketology #timemanagement #personalgrowth #professionaldevelopment

YOU ARE NEVER TOO YOUNG This is yet another PSA following Rare Disease Awareness Day (February 28). Unfortunately, colorectal cancer is not as rare as we would hope it would be. Another motivator for me posting this today is that someone just a couple of degrees removed from me was recently diagnosed with Stage IV colorectal cancer . . .?at age 45. If you have lived 45 years without any major health setbacks, you are blessed. Cancer does not wait. Furthermore, there are lifestyle changes one can make now that will significantly reduce the risk of becoming afflicted with cancer, especially colorectal cancer. If making those changes now is too heavy of a lift, consider how a cancer diagnosis may force you into making lifestyle changes you never thought you would need to make. Colon Cancer Coalition Key Facts: ? Colon cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the U.S. and the second leading cause of cancer deaths. But do not worry – early detection can make a huge difference. ? Anyone can get colon cancer regardless of gender, race, or nationality. ? Surprisingly, 30% of colon cancer diagnoses are found in people under 55. ? 45 is the recommended screening age for colorectal cancer. An estimated 1 in 3 adults in the U.S. are not being screened as recommended. ? The five-year survival rate for CRC is approximately 91% for stages I and II but declines to 13% for stage IV. Only 1 in 3 cases are diagnosed at stage I or II. The five-year overall survival rate is 64%. ? Colon cancer starts as polyps and usually develops slowly for 10 to 15 years. Many people with colon cancer do not have any symptoms at first, which is why screening is so important. #medicalaffairs #consutling #BlueForCRC

A RARE BREED Join me celebrating those caregivers, patients, researchers, educators, advocates and sponsors who care, share, give, and invest in the the rare disease arena. Those who do understand the unique challenges they face to access appropriate care and resources. Yet, they also know there is no tighter bond between all the stakeholders in this space. The passion and commitment is palpable. ?? #medicalaffairs #consulting #raredisease #rarediseaseday

FIELD MEDICAL DEMYSTIFIED As long as I have been in medical affairs, my most challenging dialog is trying to explain the field medical function to someone “pharma-na?ve.” ?? Alas! Some of my peers and colleagues of the Medical Affairs Professional Society (MAPS) have taken on the challenge of elucidating the complex matrix of responsibilities and activities performed by field medical professionals all over the world. If you are interested in diving deeper than the following seven key takeaways from their output, click here (https://lnkd.in/gsatm97j). Otherwise, bask in the warmth of enlightenment as you head into the weekend! ?? #medicalaffairs #consulting #fieldmedical #mysterysolved #jointhemovement

A DIFFERENT KIND OF LOVE ?? Today’s post falls on [arguably] the most romantic day of the year. Those that follow my musings here know that sometimes I divert from my innate medical affairs topic focus. Today is one of those days . . . I do not want to delve into anyone’s personal romance with another here with this post. HOWEVER, I would like to know WHAT you love. This open-ended query is deliberately far-reaching. Your answers could relate to things about yourself or not, about work or not, about life or not, about your pet(s) or not, etc., etc. . . . In an era where “negativity” sells, I would like to counteract that with some positive comments below. IGNITE THE DIALOG with positivity on this special day with an uplifting comment below!! I will start . . . “I love that I get to express my passion for teaching each and every day at work.” #medicalaffairs #consulting #ignitethedialog #whatdoyoulove

AN UNEXPECTED OUTCOME . . . ?? Like many of you here, you travel mostly for business and less for leisure. Of course, we all strive for 100% leisure travel. Some of you may already be doing that. Regardless of the theme, I enjoy traveling. I especially enjoy people-watching while traveling. Occasionally, unfortunately not all that often, I will engage with someone randomly in an airport, airplane, rideshare, restaurant, hotel . . . you name it . . . and I will be pleasantly surprised where the conversation goes. Case in point, I was grabbing an early dinner at a restaurant earlier this week. It was happy hour. So, it was quite crowded, but I managed a spot at the bar next to man who was working at the bar on his laptop while enjoying happy hour offerings . . . love it! Anyway, we got to talking, and I found his perspective on labor trends in the workforce to enlightening, especially related to my nephew’s situation. Of course, when I described what I did, he kept on with the probing questions to gain more insight. After each of us had a chance to share, he raised his glass, and I reciprocated with slight confusion, because the gesture did not seem to be the natural next step in our random interaction. We toasted and he exclaimed, “You guys are miracle workers! I really appreciate what you do.” Of course, I was flattered, but I had also just come from a tour of our manufacturing facilities which provide for needs worldwide. I had met many of the people behind our “miracle manufacturing machines,” in awe of their discipline, commitment, and attention to detail. How else do you achieve NO PRODUCT RECALLS WORLDWIDE FOR 20 YEARS AND COUNTING?! ?? It is rare for me, even when conversing with people outside of the industry, to hear such affirmation about what our industry does and what the people in our industry do every day to make people’s lives better. I humbly embraced the gesture, finished my meal, settled the tab, and rested my head on my pillow knowing that we are doing a lot of good out there, despite what narratives may be on forefront for network ratings. Take a little pride in that. To the “miracle workers!” ???? #medicalaffairs #pharmaceuticalindustry #miracleworkers

Within the first week of this month, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a draft guidance (https://lnkd.in/ev8sgq7c) to outline recommendations on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in supporting regulatory decisions about the safety, effectiveness, and quality of drugs and biological products. This document aims to provide a framework for developers and stakeholders to ensure that AI technologies are used responsibly and effectively in the pharmaceutical industry. In its current form, this draft document promulgates the adherence to the principles of transparency, explainability, robustness, and accountability. Developers and stakeholders who comply are empowered to leverage AI to enhance the regulatory process while maintaining public trust and confidence in the pharmaceutical industry. What say you? ?? #medicalffairs #consulting #fda #ai
