Congratulations to our Veterans Services Division! They have been selected as the Janene Stewart McGee Provider of the Year! It's named in honor of our late Veterans Services director who passed away in 2020. The award is presented by Veterans Bridge Home to a partner that has ensured that veterans and their families receive holistic, tailored and locally delivered care. "This award is a testament to the sacrifice and courage of our local veterans, and to our staff who work to ensure they receive the benefits and recognition that they deserve," Veterans Services Division Director Scott Garlow said. Thanks to the teamwork of several Mecklenburg County departments and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Emergency Management, we’ve removed 1.26 MILLION pounds of debris left by Hurricane Helene’s flooding in the Riverside Drive and Lake Drive area. AND Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services has inspected more than 170 buildings as part of the ongoing cleanup efforts. Voluntary buyouts and floodproofing grants are now available to property owners near Mountain Island Lake whose homes were damaged or destroyed during Hurricane Helene. A huge thank you to every team member involved for your dedication and hard work in helping our community recover!

Solid win for Solid Waste! Our Solid Waste and Recycling team received the North Carolina Rising Environmental Steward of the Year Award from the @NC Department of Environmental Stewardship Initiative! The award recognizes our staff's commitment to going above and beyond what is required by law. Solid Waste has been part of the voluntary program for five years and has received exemplary ratings for every annual audit. “Staff are truly the heroes of this effort, as without their support, dedication and commitment to environmental protection, we could not have gotten to this point,” Solid Waste Director Jeff Smithberger said. Congratulations, team! ?? : Construction project managers Amber Grzymski and Darren Steinhilber
