Abstract: Simulation optimization (SO) addresses stochastic optimization problems where the objective function can only be estimated through computer simulations. While SO has been widely used for system design decisions, it has significant potential for real-time decision-making when timely context or covariate information is available. In this seminar, Professor Barry L. Nelson will introduce an innovative paradigm—Ranking & Contextual Selection—that offers both theoretical and computational advantages over traditional metamodeling approaches. This approach can be applied to various real-time decision-making problems, illustrated with an assortment optimization problem based on Yahoo! data. ?? In our paper just published in “Computers in Biology and Medicine”, we explore the utility of Proper Orthogonal Decomposition (POD) in elucidating coronary flow dynamics pre- and post-stent placement. The movie shows the velocity magnitude in a patient-specific artery pre- (left) and post- (right) stent placement.
