What a great way to celebrate Women’s History Month—with a screening of TEMPO Milwaukee’s documentary #DirectPositive hosted by Institute for Women's Leadership Marquette University! If you haven’t seen it, I can’t recommend it enough. It is visually beautiful and inspiring and the stunning portraits used to tell the story are done by tin type photographer Margaret Muza. Jen Dirks moderated a vulnerable and powerful panel discussion with Ebony Ssali, MBA , Margaret Daun, and Kate Braasch who shared their wisdom and insights and leaders who have faced obstacles and overcome them through learning, listening, asking for help, and being authentic. Celebrating Black History Month continued last week at UWM School of Continuing Education's "Black Businesses Through The Years: A Roadmap For Success" sponsored by the Tommy G. Thompson Center on Public Leadership. Historian Clayborn Benson of Wisconsin Black Historical Society Museum started the evening sharing stories of notable figures in black history from the Milwaukee area. Carlton Highsmith, founder of Specialized Packaging Group, gave the keynote next. He grew SPG into one of the largest and most innovative designers and manufacturers of paperboard packaging in North America before selling it in 2009. Highsmith shared advice for entrepreneurs in his "Top 10 Tips For Growing Your Business." Moderator Ray Allen of Specialized Business Services and @Madtown Paradies LLC, who interviewed the panelists about their insights and lessons on their entrepreneurship journeys. Thank you to Trez V.
