Exciting week on Capitol Hill! On Tuesday, Betty Bradley, the Executive Director of Meals On Wheels Plus of Abilene TX met with Congressman Arrington (TX) and the office of Senator Cornyn (TX) and their staff to advocate for increased Social Services Block Grant (SSBG) funding. #SSBG funding is critical to ensuring that organizations like Meals on Wheels can continue providing essential services to seniors and vulnerable communities. Bradley’s leadership and dedication to fighting food insecurity make a real impact, and we’re grateful for her voice in this important conversation. Joining Bradley was Dr. Barry Moak, a long-time Board member and amazing #MealsOnWheels advocate.

Born in 1944, Ella Stewart’s life is a testament to strength and resilience. Raised in the segregated South, she learned perseverance, connection and the power of storytelling from her father, a former sharecropper. Today, Ella inspires us through the relationships she’s built — like those with the volunteers and staff who bring her #MealsOnWheels. On this last day of #BlackHistoryMonth, we honor her living legacy of love, strength and community.

Meals on Wheels was proud to sponsor the National Governors Association Winter Meeting in Washington, D.C. this past weekend! Our President and CEO, Ellie Hollander, attended for the first time, representing the Meals on Wheels network and engaging with state leaders on the importance of addressing senior hunger and social isolation. Ellie had the opportunity to connect with governors and their offices and shared how Meals on Wheels programs serve seniors in nearly every community. She also emphasized the critical need for increased funding and the devastating impact proposed federal cuts, such as eliminating Social Services Block Grants, would have on providers across the country. We were honored to represent our providers and the millions of seniors who could benefit from Meals on Wheels. Thank you to the National Governors Association! We look forward to opportunities like this where we will continue to advocate for policies and funding that support seniors in every community. #MealsOnWheels #NGAWinterMeeting ?? So many seniors look forward to visits from #MealsOnWheels! A meals delivery may be the only human contact some homebound seniors receive all week.
