The humanoid revolution is here, will human workers be replaced forever? ?? Not quite… The global workforce is on the brink of transformation; and while this new wave of robots will bring human-like adaptability and intelligence to warehouses and factory floors, the future is collaborative, not isolated. For example, in our industry, repetitive tasks like laser cutting and engraving can be automated to improve precision and speed. Meanwhile, laborious, physically demanding roles that often have a high turnover in warehouse settings, such as picking, can be handled by robots to improve staff well-being and job satisfaction. In short, robotic capabilities can improve productivity, reduce errors and support human teams with tasks that are too arduous. Congratulations are in order for ToffeeX - this year’s highly-deserved winners of the Aerospace Technology Institute (ATI) Breakthrough Award for most promising startup ?? “The judges were particularly impressed by our groundbreaking physics-driven generative design software, which is transforming thermal management systems in aerospace and beyond.” ToffeeX joined us for Cohort Three in September 2023, and it’s been wonderful to see them on their journey since. It’s safe to say Q4 got off to a flying start for our talented network of Sixth Sense startups. Let’s take a look at what they’ve been up to this last month. ?? Dessia Technologies from Challenge Three just completed a €3 million funding round. Led by Matterwave Ventures, Supernova Invest, and the Orano Venture Fund, the investment will help Dessia to accelerate its international expansion and build its technical and commercial teams. ??? ToffeeX, also from Challenge Three, showcased at New York City Climate Week, demonstrating how leading engineering organisations like Toyota, Airbus and Rolls-Royce are using its physics-driven generative design solutions to boost performance whilst accelerating sustainability. ?? oculavis, who demonstrated their smart service and connected worker platform at Challenge Two, delivered a talk at MINExpo International, the mining industry’s largest event, in Las Vegas. ?? Did you see the exciting announcement from two of our Sixth Sense winners last month? In case you missed it, GelSight and Flexxbotics, winners of Challenge Two and Three respectively, have collaborated to offer a joint system for robotic nondestructive testing. Merging GelSight’s tactile sensing technology with Flexxbotics’ controls for robotic machine tending, the system provides precise quality inspection and digital thread traceability to slash assessment time. Youssef Benmokhtar, CEO of GelSight, says the partnership allows manufacturers to completely automate a workflow that is traditionally done using completely human-centric, analog techniques. In a world where productivity seriously is the highest currency, technology that automates processes seamlessly is golden.
