Students, staff, and faculty from the Department of Mechanical Engineering -Colorado State University, the Colorado State University Ram Rocketry team, the AIAA CSU team, and the CSU Drone Center represented CSU on March 17th at the Colorado State Capitol for Aerospace Day. The CSU representatives also had the honor of meeting Ron Sega, co-founder of the CSU Systems Engineering Department and co-chair of the Colorado Space Coalition, alongside the Lt. Meet Trevor Olsen! Not only is Trevor the founder and president of the Flight Simulation Club, he also is a third-year student in the Department of Mechanical Engineering -Colorado State University with an aerospace emphasis and math minor. Trevor is passionate about all things to do with aviation, but because he is color blind, he is unable to fly a plane at night. So, he decided to build a fully functional flight simulator, along with a working cockpit dashboard - all hand built and fully fabricated by Trevor and the flight simulator club. He started this endeavor in high school, continued to work on his project in his freshman dorm room, and now he also has his own YouTube channel, and a business building parts and software for flight simulators. After graduation, Trevor plans to branch into entrepreneurship, and is considering obtaining his helicopter pilot license after his sister surprised him with a helicopter ride for his birthday. In addition to his participation in the Flight Simulation club and the Rams Aviation club, Trevor enjoys unicycling and skateboarding.?

?? Inspiring Future Engineers at Adams State Discovery Day! We had the incredible opportunity to welcome 50 high school students from San Luis Valley to Adams State Discovery Day, where they explored the Adams State/CSU Mechanical Engineering Partnership Program—an innovative pathway to earning a CSU mechanical engineering degree while studying at Adams State. The students engaged in hands-on STEM challenges, including: ?? Designing a marble drop rollercoaster to maximize rolling time ?? Modifying LEGO cars to improve speed down an incline ?? Touring Adams State’s engineering labs, featuring projects in mechatronics, fluid dynamics, and jet propulsion Through hands-on activities and real-world applications, these students got a taste of what it means to be an engineer—problem-solving, creativity, and innovation.
