I applaud the U.S. District Court’s decision to issue a temporary restraining order, stopping the firings of thousands of hardworking Marylanders and requiring those previously fired employees to be reinstated. The actions of the Trump administration illegally deprived these workers of their livelihoods and has left other federal employees and their families fearful of what will come next. -Brooke

Tax Season 2025 continues, and the Public Engagement Team is crossing the state and sharing all the resources from our agency! The team attended many events throughout February, presenting citations on behalf of the Comptroller and sharing information about Direct File and helpful tax credits like the EITC and the CTC. See you out on the road!

The Maryland Board of Revenue Estimates (BRE) today voted to write down state revenue projections for Fiscal Year 2025 to $25.1 billion, and $25.2 billion in Fiscal Year 2026, a $280 million reduction across both fiscal years. As BRE Chair, I said the uncertain economic times that Maryland and the country now face are due to the reckless spending decisions being made by the Trump Administration. ? -Brooke

Fraudulent tax preparers promise large refunds but create serious issues. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Protect yourself by only using trusted, certified tax preparers. https://lnkd.in/ejfaNQ7x

I am deeply concerned about recent reports that the Trump Administration is preparing to eliminate up to 45,000 positions from the Internal Revenue Service. If the Administration moves through with this proposal, generations of Americans will suffer for it. The IRS is an essential partner to states. State governments rely on the IRS to complete complicated multi-state audits that return much-needed funds to our states that support our budget priorities. A gutted IRS is the dream of every tax cheat and a disservice to every law-abiding American and Marylander. -Brooke

Today, I met with Delmarva Community Services, Inc. and SHORE UP!, Inc. on the Eastern Shore to promote Direct File and important tax credits for Marylanders. Direct File is a better way to file taxes for eligible Marylanders because it is simple, secure, and always free. For Marylanders who may not qualify for Direct File, VITA sites across the state, including Shore Up! in Wicomico County, are available to help for free! Visit https://lnkd.in/ex56MnRz for more information. -Brooke
