This past weekend, we had the honor of celebrating La Ramadita’s 25th anniversary! ?? THANK YOU to everyone who joined us! We’re especially proud to celebrate this achievement during Women’s History Month and honor Celina, the heart behind La Ramadita. A woman- and minority-owned business, she’s been a staple in the community, serving delicious Tortas Ahogadas and other traditional Mexican dishes. After purchasing the restaurant, Celina has worked tirelessly to perfect Tortas Ahogadas, ensuring it reflects the authentic flavors of Guadalajara. ???? With our support, Celina has expanded La Ramadita to Antelope Valley. We’ve had the privilege of assisting her with refinancing and grants, and as we continue to support her journey, we’re excited to see La Ramadita grow—hoping for another new location in the future! ? Our Director of Economic Development, Luis Luna, joined our Executive Director, Philip Starr, along with the entire Harbor WorkSource and YouthSource Center staff to celebrate this incredible milestone with Councilmember Tim McOsker, Gerardo Ruvalcaba (Assistant General Manager of Workforce Development), and Dr. Luis Dorado (President of LA Harbor College). We are happy to announce that MCS, Economic Development Corporation, our sister partner organization, has been awarded funding through ETP's Social Entrepreneurs for Economic Development Initiative. This $200,000 grant will help us support immigrant and Limited English Proficient entrepreneurs in Los Angeles, particularly those transitioning from high-risk countertop fabrication jobs to safer, sustainable businesses. Our in-person training, available in English and Spanish, will cover essential topics like marketing, financial management, legal considerations, and access to capital. With help from our Harbor BusinessSource Center, he secured a microloan to buy equipment, repair inventory, and retain his 6 employees. Last Tuesday, the Harbor BusinessSource Center hosted a Sidewalk Vending Workshop with Public Counsel, ICON CDC, and Accessity. ?? We provided one-on-one assistance to 11 of 26 attendees, helping 8 vendors secure all required permits to launch their businesses. Over the past six months, Accessity has provided $250,000 in microloans through our partnership to help sidewalk vendors acquire necessary equipment. The workshop covered key topics like permits, health-compliant equipment, commissary space, MEHKO setups, and the upcoming LA Cart Grant. Special thanks to Self-Help Credit Union Credit Union for hosting us!
