关于我们
Since its founding on April 29, 1988, the MCRD Museum Foundation, originally formed as the MCRD Museum Historical Society, has had the mission to promote the legacy of the Marine Corps through historic preservation and conservation, free education programs, and community outreach initiatives that enrich the lives of Marines, sailors, and the communities they serve. The MCRD Museum Foundation is a non-profit corporation organized for educational and literary purposes as defined under section 501 (c) (3) of the internal revenue code. The original founders of the Foundation recognized that if the museum were to expand and not subject to uncertain government funding, it would need on-going civilian support. Over the course of nearly 30 years, the Foundation has contributed millions of dollars and untold hours of volunteer services that have resulted in the Command Museum’s elevation to world-class distinction. The MCRD Museum Foundation supports the Command Museum’s educational and programs to promote and preserve Marine Corps history; awards scholarships and exceptional performance grants and honorariums; maintains an active volunteer docent program; and partners with local community service and civilian organizations to conduct a wide range of programs to honor and recognize U.S. Marines and other military veterans from various eras and world conflicts. As well, the Foundation Gift Shop provides financial support for museum programs and exhibits through the sale of memorabilia, platoon graduation photos, and yearbooks. You can help preserve and perpetuate Marine Corps history by becoming a member of the MCRD Museum Support Regiment. For more information on the MCRD Museum Foundation, membership, donating, or how to partner with the organization, visit our website mcrdmuseumfoundation.org or contact the Foundation office at 619-524-4426 or [email protected].

Today, we had the privilege of hosting a profound Veteran Honor Ceremony & Plaque Dedication for GySgt John Basilone, USMC – the only enlisted Marine of WWII to receive both the Medal of Honor and Navy Cross. The ceremony featured moving performances by Marine Band San Diego under SSgt Martin Palacios and Italian tenor Rosario Monetti. Colonel Sean P. Dynan, Assistant Division Commander of the 1st Marine Division, delivered a powerful keynote address honoring Basilone's legacy of extraordinary courage at Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. It was especially meaningful to have Diane Hawkins, President of the Sgt John Basilone Foundation and John's niece, share personal reflections about her uncle's enduring impact. Special thanks to our sponsors and supporters: David Spinelli, Plaque Donor & Executive Mentor at The Honor Foundation BGen Michael I. Neil, USMC (Ret) First Marine Division First Marine Division Association The Honor Foundation MCRD Museum Foundation Sgt. John Basilone Foundation Kennedy Roofing Amerivet Contracting We're grateful to everyone who attended and helped make this ceremony a fitting tribute to an American hero whose sacrifice continues to inspire generations of service members. #VeteranHonor #MarineCorpsLegacy #JohnBasilone #MilitaryHistory #VeteransMemorial #ServiceAndSacrifice
