Key messages that emerged from this interview (in Dutch) with MCPV CEO Marc Rechter : - we can be competitive in Europe based on the right technology platform and sufficient scale - while we are on a technology level playing field, we are lacking a “market rules” (i.e. industrial policy framework) level playing field in Europe - with swift (read urgent) and strong implementation of the policy frameworks (that have already been approved), private investment will be unlocked. - we are on our way there and confident our policymakers in Brussels and EU capitals will now do what remains to be done with all the urgency required for the sake of climate change and Europe’s continued economic and political stability. #BTEvent 2024: “INVESTEER IN ENERGIEZEKERHEID Waar het congresthema in beginsel ging over duurzame transities en de sturende rol van ruimte, was geopolitiek nooit ver weg. Zowel Samsom als Gaastra hamerden op het belang van het hebben van eigen duurzame industrie?n, waar Nederland en Europa afgelopen decennia zich enorm afhankelijk hebben gemaakt van toevoerketens uit China, en voor energie uit Rusland. Tijdens corona en na de inval van Rusland in Oekra?ne, werd duidelijk toe kwetsbaar we zijn. Ook voor de energietransitie is Europa niet minder afhankelijk, maar steeds afhankelijker van China als het gaat om de circa 90 procent van de benodigde zonnecellen voor de verduurzaming van onze elektriciteitsvoorziening, die we uit China importeren. ‘Vaak wordt gezegd dat we niet met China kunnen concurreren, maar waar een wil is, is een weg’, verklaarde slotspreker Marc Rechter, de man achter een vergevorderd plan om de grootste zonnecelfabriek van Europa neer te zetten in Veendam. Een ‘make it or break it-moment voor Europa’, verklaarde hij daarover in het FD. Op het congres riep hij markt en overheid op om samen de juiste voorwaarden te scheppen om duurzame industrie?n hier wortel te laten schieten. Die zonnecellenfabriek is daarbij zowel een doel als een middel. Een eigen pv-industrie verkleint niet alleen de afhankelijkheid van toevoerketens uit China. Eigen productiecapaciteit helpt tevens de energiezekerheid te vergroten, waarbij vooral de voorspelbaarheid van de prijs van energie essentieel een belangrijke voorwaarde is investeerders vaste grond onder voeten te bieden. Een essentieel onderdeel van nieuwe industriepolitiek, aldus Rechter.”
