There is so much diet information out there, it can be overwhelming. A registered dietitian (RD) could help you navigate your best nutritional path and map out a plan. "Registered dietitians are credentialed in nutrition and are your best option for evidence-based nutrition advice," said McLaren Flint clinical dietitian Elexia Sylvester. "They make all the confusing and ever-changing nutrition tips on the internet digestible for you and your lifestyle." When seeking nutrition advice, make sure you are looking for a registered dietitian or a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN). March is Nutrition Month.

Sometimes when we visit a physician looking for a diagnosis, they may need more than a physical exam and blood work to find the answer. This is when magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may be helpful for your doctor to better understand your condition. By providing detailed images, an MRI can give your physician more information to help diagnose you and plan the best course of treatment. Learn when an MRI may be the best tool for you at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gJP8aMrv

A hospital retiree who is now participating in the outpatient cardiac rehab program shared a piece of history with the staff recently. They brought in a copy of a 1974 employee newsletter called “McLaren Lines”. In that March issue, the new cardiac cath equipment and cath lab employees were highlighted. The lab included both invasive and non-invasive services. The unit was established in March 1972, with the first cardiac catheterization and coronary angiography performed on March 12, 1973. Between then and March 1974, a total of 200 cardiac catheterizations and 32 pacemakers insertions were performed. At that time the lab, supervised by Dr. Cyrus Farrehi, had four team members- an RN, CPT, RT, and secretary .

Taking the first bite of a meal or sip of a drink suddenly became difficult for Daniel Zuhlke. Whatever he ate or drank would stop when it reached his throat, and when it finally went down, it was painful. It turned out, Daniel had esophageal cancer. He took a chance on proton therapy- a treatment he had never heard of- and he is glad he did. Read Daniel's story at the link below. https://lnkd.in/gFZxN3Zp

A patient's daughter nominated Tammie for this honor. "My mother was a patient in ICU, and Tammie was her day nurse," said Tammie's nominator. "My mother's kidneys, liver, and heart were failing. Tami was compassionate and caring and she is an excellent nurse. My mother passed away on Tammie's shift and Tammie helped me through the worst day of my life."
