As we gear up for the 5th year of the Byron Nelson at TPC Craig Ranch, happening this May, we celebrate its deep roots in McKinney. In 1943, Byron Nelson and Lt. Ben Hogan raised funds to build a 9-hole golf course at Ashburn General Hospital for wounded soldiers. Nelson won the 1944 Texas Victory Open, raising $22,000 for the course. That nine-hole course evolved into what is now the city owned Oak Hollow Golf Course in 1998, and today, the North Texas Job Corps occupies the former hospital site, providing education and career training to young adults. Byron Nelson's vision for golf and community continues to shape McKinney's story, leaving a lasting impact both on the course and beyond.?

We were encouraged and inspired by this morning's McKinney Black History Month event. The McKinney Chamber of Commerce, McKinney Community Development Corporation, Collin County Black Chamber and ourselves partnered together - Gere’ Feltus, MD and Shawn Whitlock did a great job organizing the 4th annual MBHM event, and Jade “Lady Jade” B. did an incredible job of interviewing Roland Parrish about his tenacity, leadership, work ethic, and most importantly, contributions back to community.
