It's time to GIVE BIG! People often ask what are our community's biggest needs or to which nonprofit they should direct their charitable contributions. My answer is always the same- give where your heart is compelled. THE BIG GIVE starts tonight at 6pm!

"Nonprofit organizations rely on the community for support so that they, in turn, can support the community." People need people- now more than ever. I am thankful every day for nonprofits that are here to serve, but they can't do it alone. They need YOU!

"Nonprofit is a tax status, not a business model." For years the McKenna Foundation has supported nonprofits in their development of sound business models that support people and their abilities to thrive. Nonprofits are often misunderstood and not respected as the strong economic drivers that they are in the greater New Braunfels area. The community has an opportunity to support them in a BIG way during The Big Give, Sept. 18-19, 2024. They provide so many options for your heart to align with their hard work.

Every month deserves to be mental health month, but we formally acknowledge this in May. In 2015 the McKenna Foundation convened our first mental health task force of local nonprofits and community stakeholders who produced 19 community goals. Almost 10 years later, we assembled a similar group this month to reevaluate our progress on those goals and continue visioning on future behavioral health resources. I am proud to report that our community has made significant progress toward 8 of those goals: - Reduce stigma associated with mental & behavioral health disorders by educating the community regarding prevention of mental illness, early warning signs and the impact of stigma. See https://mapcomal.org/ - Establish a Mobile Crisis Outreach Team (MCOT). - Implement and expand the use of tele-med services to improve accessibility. - Expand the availability of services through collaborative efforts that include sharing public facilities and the innovative use of technology. - Utilize satellite offices and home visits throughout the community to ensure services are fully accessible. - Expand successful prevention and intervention programs to new partners and consumers. - Increase the number of social workers/mental health professionals in the schools to help with early identification and intervention and to provide education for families. - Establish relationships with new funding sources and develop collaborative funding efforts. https://lnkd.in/gSkwTz_d
