In this episode, we discuss the value of cyber conferences (shout out to NetDiligence?, Zywave, IAPP, @PLUS, ExecuSummit, and all the others I missed). Beyond the educational sessions, the informal discussions that take place behind the scenes contribute greatly to our understanding of legal, market, and security trends. The collaborations formed, and the authentic connections made within the industry provide invaluable benefits for all attendees. I can’t neglect a special shout-out to meeting Shawn Melito in a buffet line at a Zywave conference in 2019, discussing the pros and cons of pasta salad. Further, we dive into the unforeseen consequences of catastrophic vendor breaches. Is the market ready for a vendor to throw its hands up, declare bankruptcy, and push all notification obligations to its insureds? Is the market ready for the mass-scale class actions that would follow? Do insurers need to start thinking about sublimits for these types of events? **From Lessons Learned to Lessons Shared: How I'm Giving Back to My Fellow Attorneys** A week or so ago, I connected with a fellow attorney on social media who was ready to transition from litigation to corporate law but felt like she had "no experience." I’ve been there. Eight years ago, so many attorneys told me I couldn’t make the switch. Now? My litigation background is my superpower as a corporate/M&A attorney—and it will be hers too. While she felt she had no experience in corporate law, I showed her exactly why that wasn’t the case. We worked through her transferable skills, revamped her resume, and strategized how to position herself for corporate opportunities. She took action immediately—met with her supervisor, asked for more corporate-centric work, and had every request met. We’re continuing to work together until she lands her dream corporate law position. She’s well on her way. At the end of our last meeting, she told me, “Thank you for believing in me.” And that hit me. I wish I’d had someone to guide me through my own transition—it would have saved me so much time and stress. Not to mention, having a hype-woman in my corner would have made the journey so much easier. This experience has brought me so much joy and fulfillment. I want to do the same for two other attorneys who are serious about making career changes and would be a great fit for my mentorship.
