Developing "Business Ready" Leaders the World Needs!
关于我们
The Robert C. McDermond Center for Management and Entrepreneurship helps students blend their business and entrepreneurial spirit with a liberal arts education through a focus on leadership development and experiential learning. The Center develops "business-ready" leaders the world needs by providing students in any major, with access to programs, mentors, tools, internships, workshops and skill development. Whether the student desires to start their own business, or work for an existing business, the goal of the Center is to assist the student in achieving their professional dreams and goals . Whether a student aspires a career in an established enterprise, a start-up company, a not-for-profit endeavor, or wants to create his/her own company, the Center has programs and networks to equip them to be "business ready" in their chosen path.

The McDermond Center was busy last evening as the DePauw Entrepreneurship Group (DEG) put on their Fall Pitch Competition. DEG co-presidents Ezekiel Bramble and Ellen Gardner facilitated, Dave Bittner from the West Central Indiana Small Business Development Center (Indiana SBDC) moderated, and McDermond staff Assistant Director Amanda Dorsett and Director Steve Fouty kept things moving smothly behind the scenes. But the stars of the night were the amazing judges and the student entrepreneurs! Our experienced judges were: Katie Birge '08, VP of Platform at M25; R. J. Talyor,'02 founder of Backstroke; Ben Hizer, CEO of Luminary AI Technologies; and Michael Leonard, Associate at North Coast Ventures. Our talented student winners: First place went to Hanan Tariq; second place to Samip Devkota; and third place to the team of Jadyn Lock and Madelyn Reinhardt! The judges were so impressed with the pitches, that they also gave honorable mention awards out to these three outstanding student entrepreneurs: Ben Schroeder, William Cramer and the team of Quan Tran and Ngoc Le. #pitchcompetition #entrepreneurship #depauwu #goldwithin #startupideas

This year's DePauw Fall Pitch Competition did not disappoint! A huge congratulations goes out to the winners. Samip Devkota, Hanan Tariq, Jadyn Lock & Madelyn Reinhardt all had fantastic business and product ideas. We hope that your ideas grow with the funds DePauw has afforded you and that you find success in your ventures! We could not have had such an engaging and smooth competition without our returning proctor, Dave Bittner. More thanks go to the judges, Katie Birge, R. J. Talyor, Ben Hizer, and Michael Leonard for asking challenging questions, giving thoughtful feedback, and for enriching our University's culture of entrepreneurship even more. This would not have been possible without the leadership of Steve Fouty and Amanda Dorsett, nor would I have been able to organize this event without collaboration with my amazing co-president, Ellen Gardner. We appreciate you all! We look forward to the upcoming Spring Pitch Competition this coming term! If any students on this page are interested in this kind of programming and more, join Entrepreneurship Group by reaching out to me, Ellen, or inquiring in the McDermond Center for Management and Entrepreneurship at DePauw University, our sponsor.

The McDermond Center Speaker Series wrapped up the semester going strong with over 120 in attendance to hear DePauw University Darnall Alumni Fellow Honoree Jessica Curry '09, Senior Vice President at Teads in Chicago. Her presentation: "Building Your Own Brand: The Art And Science of Selling" shared her successful story from Media Associate (Buy Side) to leading and entire office as Senior Vice President of Sales (Sell Side). Jessica inspired students with many insights she has gained on her journey both at DePauw and then during her marketing and sales career so far. Jessica reminded students to utilize the vast DePauw alumni network and to take the lead, do the research, and reach out... don't be your first "no"! We kept Jessica very busy in addition to her main presentation: she started the day recording for an upcoming Conversations with Women Leaders Podcast for DePauw's School of Business and Leadership, answered questions from students in small groups, met with DePauw Alumni Engagement and the Communications team too! #depauwu #goldwithin #careersinsales #careersinmarketing #careersinadvertising #womeninleadership Thank you for participating with students during lunch as well Nathaniel Christensen!
