Today is Equal Pay Day which marks the current state of the gender pay gap. The wage gap for most women working full time is 82 cents for every dollar paid to men. The pay gap is even greater for women of color, women with disabilities and LGBTQIA+ communities. McDaniel law is committed to pay equity for all of its employees. "I have a strong connection to the military with both my brothers having had military careers and serving multiple tours of duty in active combat. As such, I have witnessed the difficulty of transitioning to civilian life after those experiences and the impact that struggle can have on the mental health of a veteran as well as the very real consequence of that struggle without adequate support resources. Women face challenges that routinely place them at risk for victimization and isolation while deployed. Additionally, reintegrating successfully to their home communities proves extremely difficult as female veterans often face systems that remain primarily male centered in their service delivery.?Female veterans deployed overseas experience mental health disorders just like male veterans do, yet government and military organizations and agencies find it difficult to provide peer support or group therapy that is gender-specific. There are also fewer opportunities for women who served to access specialized mental health care on an inpatient basis that are suitable for female needs and preferences. GOTR is an after-school program that teaches life skills along with physical activity and hosts a 5K race at the end of each season. They serve Brown, Butler, Clermont, Clinton, Hamilton, & Warren counties in Ohio; Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Grant, & Pendleton counties in Kentucky; Ohio and Dearborn county in Indiana.? "Girls on the Run has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire participants to recognize their inner strength, increase their level of physical activity, imagine their possibilities, and confidently stand up for themselves and others. I had the opportunity to serve on their board for several years.
