?? New DEC Wetlands Regulations Effective January 1, 2025 – What You Need to Know! ???? ? Big changes are here for property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and realtors in New York. The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has expanded its jurisdiction over freshwater wetlands, which could significantly impact future development projects. ? ?? Key Updates: ? Wetlands over 12.4 acres OR those deemed "Wetlands of Unusual Importance" are now regulated. ? DEC Wetland Maps are now informational only. ??Certain previously approved projects may be exempt until 2027/2028 depending on several factors. ? ?? If you’re planning a project, verifying wetlands on your property is critical.?DEC jurisdictional determinations and/or permitting may now be required. ?
