3 things to know about our Building Automation Engineer, Christina Domanski Favorite thing about her role: I get the opportunity to work closely with everyone in the ESCO department, in many different combinations, and from all the McClure offices. Each project approach, solution, and team vibe are unique. Not only do I get to experience this diversity internally, I also get to coordinate with building automation professionals outside of my organization that have been working in the same circles as me for the past 20 years. I’ve built some great relationships and lasting friendships along the way that I am grateful for. Fun Fact: I got my associate’s degree in accounting (boring) and I wanted to change my major to Mechanical Engineering. My college advisor told me to reconsider this move, as it is ‘a male dominated field’ and would present associated challenges. Accepting this challenge, I became 1 of 2 females in my graduating class of Mechanical Engineers. As my son was growing up, I started to see STEM being promoted to young ladies and I am finally getting the opportunity to work alongside of those ladies that chose the same path today. Motivated by: Having new travel adventures on my calendar. #NationalEngineersWeek #BuildingTheFuture

Why did you become an Engineer? "Growing up I would always find myself fascinated with how the world works. From the Legos in my hand to the concepts of space and time. That’s where my love started for connecting somethings function with how it applied to its surroundings. I would go around my house and find little things that “needed” tweaked. Using my limited resources, I would come up with unique solutions that didn’t take the cake as the best, but they worked in their own creative way. My love for problem solving kept growing and growing. As I became older, I enjoyed math so much because the logistical structure made sense to me. Science was another subject that piqued my interest. It had an aspect of mystery and discovery that kept me coming back. The two paired together drove me to become an engineer. I could have the best of both worlds: the enigmas, the problems that come with, creativity for the solutions, and logistics in the process. My passion was solidified when I realized how important problem solving is in life. There are always hardships thrown your way, both in and out of the workplace. It seemed like the natural remedy to become a “Professional Problem Solver” and carry that skill not only in my career but into my personal well-being too." - Will Hoover, Project Development Specialist #NationalEngineersWeek #BuildingTheFuture

What's the most rewarding part of your job? The most rewarding part of my job as an engineer is seeing the designs come to life as projects are built. There is certainly a sense of pride in developing a project from the initial concept through construction. Every project is an opportunity to improve and grow as an engineer as each new opportunity brings its own unique challenges. - Doug Boswell, PE, CEM #NationalEngineersWeek #BuildingTheFuture

Why I became an engineer: "The decision to become an engineer was really solidified when I found out about NASA’s Curiosity rover exploring Mars. The fact that we could launch a rocket into space and have it land on another planet with a robot completely unharmed amazed me. Then when Curiosity explored Mars, I was able to see it move and operate, things clicked for me. I wanted to know how someone could design and build things as cool as the rover." - Matt Faller, PE Matt received his certification as a PE so he could make a larger impact on the projects he was involved in. He wanted to see his vision for a project become a reality.
