Sadie’s journey at University of Tennessee, Knoxville has given her opportunities to grow from graduate student, to full time employee, to co-curator of one of our largest exhibitions. Congratulations to Sadie on her success and upcoming graduation!
"UT has given me so many opportunities since I've been here." Sadie Counts, PhD candidate in cultural anthropology, has spent the last four years working at the McClung Museum of Natural History and Culture, University of Tennessee as a co-curator and project manager for “Homelands,†a new exhibit featuring contemporary works by 17 Native artists. Over the past seven years of working at the museum, Counts has had unique opportunities to gain experience working in anthropology and collaborating with others. "To have so many of our Native partners here to see it and to see their artwork and to show it to their families was just the most meaningful thing I have ever had the privilege of doing in my career," shares Counts. Developed in collaboration with four Native Nations, "Homelands: Connecting to Mounds Through Native Art" invites the viewer to explore Indigenous perspectives on placemaking and the deep cultural and spiritual significance of Native American mounds. See the exhibition in person at the McClung Museum now through December 2027!
