Today, the McAllen Economic Development Corporation had the opportunity to meet with Texas A&M School of Nursing, McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos, and McAllen City Manager Isacc Tawil to learn more about the highly anticipated Texas A&M Nursing School set to open right here in McAllen! This new program is a major step forward for healthcare education and workforce development in the Rio Grande Valley. By providing top-tier nursing education and training locally, this initiative will help increase the number of skilled nurses in our region, addressing the growing demand for healthcare professionals. With state-of-the-art facilities, industry-leading curriculum, and hands-on clinical training, Texas A&M Nursing in McAllen will equip students with the knowledge and experience needed to serve and strengthen our local healthcare system. As the demand for qualified healthcare professionals continues to rise, this program will play a critical role in expanding the local talent pipeline, ensuring that more homegrown nurses have the opportunity to build successful careers right here in the RGV. ?? McAllen Named Host City for UT Austin’s Home to Texas Program! ?? The McAllen Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and McAllen Chamber of Commerce (MCC), in partnership with Texas Exes and The University of Texas at Austin, are proud to announce that McAllen has been selected as a host city for the Home to Texas program! ?? This scholarship-funded initiative connects first-year UT Austin students with internship and research opportunities in their hometowns, fostering talent retention and economic growth. MEDC and MCC have been named official internship sites, offering hands-on experience in economic and business development. Through a nine-week, full-time internship, students will engage in local workforce projects, a professional skills course, and a community engagement event, strengthening ties between young professionals, employers, and stakeholders. “This is an exciting opportunity to showcase the diverse career paths available in McAllen,” said Josh Vasquez, MEDC’s Director of Workforce Development. “By welcoming students back, we are building the next generation of leaders and strengthening our local workforce pipeline.” ??
