The McAllen Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) is a not-for-profit corporation under contract with the City of McAllen to create jobs by attracting new industry and helping existing companies expand within the city and in Reynosa, MX. The MEDC team works with prospective industrial clients, handles marketing and public affairs and provides corporate support to existing manufacturing and supplier companies. Industrial clients are individuals who represent companies or industries looking for a site to expand or relocate their plant or service operation. They include the full realm from suppliers to manufacturers. Does MEDC promote business location in Mexico? YES! McAllen is strategically located four-miles north of Reynosa, Mexico and has access to three international bridges. Labor availability, lowers costs, strategic location for distribution, turn-key operations and land availability have prompted companies around the world to view Mexico as an attractive alternative in their decision to relocate. Many companies that have moved to Reynosa, Mexico have also established offices in McAllen and almost all of them have key employees who live on the U.S. side of the shared border. This location decision creates a win-win situation for Reynosa and McAllen. MEDC offers information and assistance for industrial relocations in Reynosa, Mexico. MEDC does not charge for services provided in McAllen or Reynosa.

Today, the McAllen Economic Development Corporation had the opportunity to meet with Texas A&M School of Nursing, McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos, and McAllen City Manager Isacc Tawil to learn more about the highly anticipated Texas A&M Nursing School set to open right here in McAllen! This new program is a major step forward for healthcare education and workforce development in the Rio Grande Valley. By providing top-tier nursing education and training locally, this initiative will help increase the number of skilled nurses in our region, addressing the growing demand for healthcare professionals. With state-of-the-art facilities, industry-leading curriculum, and hands-on clinical training, Texas A&M Nursing in McAllen will equip students with the knowledge and experience needed to serve and strengthen our local healthcare system. As the demand for qualified healthcare professionals continues to rise, this program will play a critical role in expanding the local talent pipeline, ensuring that more homegrown nurses have the opportunity to build successful careers right here in the RGV. The McAllen Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and McAllen Chamber of Commerce (MCC), in partnership with Texas Exes and The University of Texas at Austin, are proud to announce that McAllen has been selected as a host city for the Home to Texas program! ?? This scholarship-funded initiative connects first-year UT Austin students with internship and research opportunities in their hometowns, fostering talent retention and economic growth. MEDC and MCC have been named official internship sites, offering hands-on experience in economic and business development.
