On #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the women who are making a difference every day. We are proud to see more women in our field and leading the way for future generations. #IWD25
As someone who is impassioned about protecting the environment, I’ve been inspired by the incredible women who have paved the way in environmental conservation. Rachel Carson (1907-1964) was a scientist and author who was known for inciting passion for protection of natural resources through her writing. Carson wrote her most popular book "Silent Spring" in 1962. The story is told through examples of how man-made chemicals and pesticides (specifically DDT) have deep human, animal, and ecological impacts. "Silent Spring" was met with immense push-back from wealthy chemical companies, however, Carson's research was incredibly meticulous and withstood the criticism. Her book stimulated concerns in the public and in 1972, the U.S. Government effectively banned the use of DDT in the USA. Carson is regarded as inspiring the modern environmental protection movement. Her unwavering devotion to protecting life and the natural world?motivated me to follow in her footsteps. Today, there are more women in our field making an impact and I’m proud to be a part of this growing community. Here’s to celebrating International Women's Day and recognizing women who are leading the way—past, present, and future! #IWD25 More information: https://lnkd.in/gp9h3gu3 https://lnkd.in/gWXYDhrz Image courtesy of The New York Times: https://lnkd.in/g5pTAeEQ
