Exciting Developments in BIPV Reliability and Certification!? We recently organized the MC2.0 Reliability and Certification Workshop, hosted by University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) with co-organizers TNO and imec. The workshop aimed to advance the methodology for reliability testing and certification of BIPV products in the era of Mass Customization. Our mission in the MC2.0 project is to enable greater diversity and design freedom in the BIPV market, meeting the unique requirements of architects and customers across various projects. By developing a “Mass Customization Line” for PV semi-fabricates, we aim to facilitate rapid modifications in design—whether it be shape, size, electrical specifications, or material selection—allowing seamless integration into IPV products. However, this increased diversity in PV semi-fabricates presents challenges to the current certification system, necessitating the creation of certification families. Moreover, certifying end products has become more complex as they now fall under multiple categories, including PV and various structural elements. We're thrilled that the workshop successfully established the starting point for testing and certification approaches for the four products involved in the MC2.0 project.
