Today, the Greater Amman Municipality celebrates #AmmanCityDay, an occasion to commemorate the city's achievements and look ahead to its bright future! With support from the MMC's Global Cities Fund for Migrants and Refugees, the City of Amman is promoting refugee social inclusion and bolstering its climate resilience by constructing an accessible and climate-smart public park for refugee and Jordanian children. The park will feature the city’s first ever climate academy to teach Amman’s youngest residents about environmental stewardship. ???Join us in celebrating Amman’s commitment to building a more inclusive and sustainable future! ?? I’m thrilled to announce that Dr Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, has joined the Mayors Migration Council Leadership Board! Mayor Maimunah has been a bold and visionary leader, transforming both local and global conversations on urban inclusivity. As Executive Director of UN-Habitat (United Nations Human Settlements Programme), she played a pivotal role in shaping the New Urban Agenda and championing inclusive development for migrants and refugees. A trusted partner of the MMC since day one, she helped launch our inaugural #GlobalCitiesFund for Migrants and Refugees—a transformative initiative that channels international funding to cities to address urgent needs today while building the foundation for long-term sustainability and impact. In Kuala Lumpur, where nearly 1 in 10 residents are foreign-born, Mayor Maimunah is raising the bar for inclusive urban governance. Within just 100 days of taking office, she prioritized bold initiatives to ensure access to affordable, safe housing for all residents, including newcomers. Welcome to the MMC family, Mayor Maimunah! Your leadership will amplify the voices of Asian cities and inspire mayors worldwide to create opportunities that allow all communities to thrive. ??
