Customers across the government and commercial sectors will continue to rely on insights from satellite imagery and other geospatial datasets to empower decision-making and action. The key is to incorporate more artificial intelligence and machine learning to process more information, faster so that users can act in real-time.?? ? To get there, Maxar sees a future built around autonomous satellite tasking, where artificial intelligence algorithms can help manage the process, determining where to task next based on the latest data analysis to drive a continuous insights loop.?? ? Maxar’s Chief Product Officer, Peter Wilczynski, shares more in his recent Q&A with Defense One.? ?? ?? The Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world's tallest structure, looks just as stunning at night as it does during the day. ? Both images were collected in the past few days. The daytime image was collected by our newest WorldView Legion satellite on Nov. 17, and this nighttime image was collected by another Maxar satellite yesterday, Nov. 21. ? ?? Because our third and fourth WorldView Legion satellites are in mid-inclination orbit, we can now collect images from sunup to sundown (from “dawn to dusk”). ?? As you can see here, there's also value in being able to collect very high resolution electro-optical imagery at night. You can get a sense for human activity on the ground after the sun has gone down, which can be valuable for both government and commercial use cases.

2D maps of the world, often built and updated with satellite imagery, have become an expectation. They are visible and accessible in apps on our phones, in our cars for navigation, and embedded on all kinds of websites.? ? The next evolution of maps will be 3D maps, which are currently being created. In this clip from a conversation with Geoawesome, Josh Winer explains how the development of 2D maps is different from 3D maps and the progress we’ve made to building out the Globe in 3D from satellite imagery.? ? ?? News flash: The first images from our third and fourth WorldView Legion satellites are here. And what a story they tell. These stunning, high-resolution images show points of interest in New Zealand, Dubai and Hawaii, including an intraday collection that demonstrates our "dawn-to-dusk" capability: 1?? New Zealand: All three images of the airport in Christchurch, New Zealand, were collected in a three-hour period by the same satellite on November 7, 2024, showing aircraft movement and fueling operations in near real-time. 2?? Dubai: A high-resolution image of the Burj Khalifa collected on November 17, 2024, at 2:52 p.m. local time, shows incredible detail of architectural features and shadows. 3?? Hawaii: Another early morning image collected at 7:27 a.m. local time shows the Grand Princess cruise ship docked at the Pier 2 Cruise Terminal in Honolulu, Hawaii, before its departure later that day. ?? These two satellites are Maxar’s first in mid-inclination orbit, which unlocks the “dawn-to-dusk” capability. Once all six WorldView Legion satellites are fully operational next year, our constellation will be able to revisit some Earth locations up to 15x a day, from sunup to sundown. ? This represents the highest revisit rates at 30 cm-class resolution of any commercial Earth observation constellation on orbit. ?? Our channel partner EOMAP has integrated the new WorldView Legion imagery into their bathymetry services. Using this very-high resolution data, the team can provide insights on underwater topography in much more detail and more frequently than before. This enables their customers in law enforcement, defense and industry to rapidly assess coastal change and to map shallow waters in challenging environments. Two of the many applications for these types of maps include coastal resilience and protection measures. ? These images show EOMAP’s bathymetry maps created from new WorldView Legion imagery. More details below:??
?? Benefit of very high-resolution data: The 30 cm-class resolution imagery from Maxar’s WorldView Legion satellites is now incorporated into our workflow. Here is one of the first satellite-derived bathymetry datasets we’ve processed. Currently, the Maxar Technologies satellites can collect more than 1.8M km2 of 30 cm-class satellite imagery daily. When all six WorldView Legion satellites are operational on orbit, the Maxar constellation will collect 3.6M km2 of 30 cm-class imagery per day. ?? Four WorldView Legion satellites have launched this year, and we successfully imported the first data from them into our processing chain. From now on, our algorithms will be able to produce very-high resolution bathymetry, terrestrial topography, and habitat maps within standardised workflows, harmonised with the outputs of other, established high-resolution sensors (WorldView-2, WorldView-3, GeoEye). These capabilities entail the following advantages for our clients in business and authorities worldwide: ?? 30 cm resolution -> These very high-resolution data will benefit our customers with even better highly detailed maps of shallow water bathymetry and land topography as well as habitat maps. ? Up to 15 revisits of areas per day -> This is expected to dramatically increase the coverage of high-quality, very-high resolution data in Earth’s mid-latitudes for applications with a need of recurring imagery, such as the monitoring of #marine pollution or harmful #algae, but also for traffic and #defence aspects. ???Moreover, the new Maxar’s satellites?also form part of our software routines and will also be featured in our online web applications and processing solutions, the eoapp series. “????’???? ?????????????? ?????????????? ???? ???????? ???????????????????? ???????????????? ???? ????????-???????? ?????? ?????? ??????????????. ?????????? ??????, ???? ???????????? ?????? ?????? ?????????????????? ???????????? ???????? ???? ?????????????? ?????? ???????????????????????? ???? ?????????????? ???????? ???? ???????????????????? ?????????????? ?????? ????????????????????,” says Philip Klinger, Shallow Water Commercial Projects Lead at EOMAP.
