For today’s #WeekOfThanks, we’re celebrating the inspiring Durreen Shahnaz! We had the privilege of connecting with this #trailblazing professor and author as part of our #SummerReadingList to discuss her remarkable book, The Defiant Optimist. The conversation was a powerful reminder of the transformative #impact of grounding ourselves in #joy and #optimism — not as a retreat, but as a #superpower fueling our #defiance and drive for #change. Thank you, Prof. Shahnaz, for sharing your wisdom and inspiring us to meet challenges with hope and action. Your work continues to light the way for so many! ? #Gratitude #TheDefiantOptimist #Trailblazer #Philanthropy #WeekOfThanks #experientialphilanthropy #gendereguality

? The holiday season is starting, and with it comes the joy of cherished rituals. One of our favorite traditions? #WeekOfThanks – a celebration of gratitude and community! Today, we’re extending a heartfelt THANK YOU to the Global Fund for Women, Women Moving Millions, National Women's Law Center, and all the incredible speakers who contributed to the Women & Democracy Series – a groundbreaking collaboration within the philanthropic space. This past June, we united our communities for a powerful weekly series, delving into the many forms of #genderbasedviolence that women encounter as they engage in democratic processes – from physical threats and restrictions to legislative barriers. Together, we explored how philanthropy can champion participatory equality and empower change-makers around the globe. Our collaboration was a testament to the power of collective action and the impact we create when we expand our circles. Thank you for being part of this important journey – here’s to continuing the work, together! ???? #Gratitude #Philanthropy #WomenAndDemocracy #GenderEquality #ParticipatoryEquality #ExperientialPhilanthropy

? Maverick Collective retreats are always a highlight on our journey! These gatherings move our community beyond boardrooms and slide decks, immersing us in spaces that spark learning, introspection, connection, and creativity. This year’s retreat in Guatemala ???? was no exception. Crafted around the ‘three C’s’ of deep connection—#Community, #Culture, and #Curiosity —we explored local traditions, shared transformative stories, and embraced the beauty of curiosity-driven leadership. From vibrant art and cultural exchanges to moments of deep reflection. ?? Curious to dive deeper? As we strive for #gender_equity, grounding ourselves in ancient histories can offer unexpected strength and insights. The twin pyramids at Mixco Viejo represent the balance and harmony between Mayan women and men. Standing before them with our community of bold women philanthropists, we reflected on the equal standing of Mayan women in the pre-Columbian era—a stark contrast to the ongoing erosion of women’s rights worldwide. Anthropologist Shankari Patel’s words resonated deeply: “If you say [Mayan] women are subjugated today because they always have been, that’s a way of justifying what’s happening today. But if you can show… that [inequity] happened because of colonialism, there is opportunity for new interpretations of history and for change to occur.” Our journey forward, toward justice and equity, can be emboldened by reclaiming these histories. https://lnkd.in/e8NY6xkU #experientialphilanthropy #impact #culture #genderequality #philanthropy #socialjustice

?? Attention Health Companies ?? Do you work in communications at a European health company and do you use very large online platforms (VLOPS) such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Linkedin, and Google to advertise your product or service? Have you faced digital suppression on social media when sharing essential health information? We want to hear your story! The Case for Her, in partnership with the CensHERship campaign, is gathering insights from health innovators like you. Whether your content has been flagged as inappropriate, shadowbanned, or outright removed, we need to understand how censorship is impacting both women’s and men’s health content. Examples include: ??Flagging of accurate sexual health information as “explicit” or “inappropriate” content. ??Shadowbanning posts about menstruation, menopause, or erectile dysfunction—leaving followers unaware of these vital messages. ??Removal of ads or posts for reproductive health products with little to no explanation. CensHERship's last research made waves, landing in national media and sparking meetings with two major social media platforms. Now, we need your voice to push this forward, break down these barriers, and create a fair digital space for all. ?? Take the survey below and let’s make a difference together! Please repost to help spread the word! https://lnkd.in/dde98aRQ #DigitalSuppression #Femtech #MensHealth #SDG5 #HealthInnovation

Our Managing Director, Rena Greifinger, sat down with Charlie Bresler, PhD, and the Musings Podcast to reflect on how she uses her privilege and power to reduce barriers for others. "I was instilled with this idea that I come from a lot of privilege and lot of ease in my own life, and to use that as power to clear the barriers for others to exercise their own privilege and power." How are you using your power and privilege? Tell us in the comments. What do you #treasure? ?? In the 16th century, the Spanish arrived in Guatemala in pursuit of gold (as our tour guide shared) but the Mayans cherished #jade — an emblem of beauty, wealth, and cultural significance. This year’s Maverick Collective Annual Retreat and our visit to the Mixco Viejo archeological site allowed us to reflect on our subjective values. What do we hold sacred, and how might our values shift as we grow? As we explored our values, we also learned the importance of honoring the differences — history, culture, and knowledge — of the communities we serve to strengthen our connection and impact. What are the “jades” in your life? #experientialphilanthropy #impact #culture #genderequality #philanthropy
