I am proud of this one! I have been named a Woman in Innovation by Innovate UK, the UK’s leading innovation agency. This award recognises pioneering women leading businesses that tackle global challenges through innovation. It includes a ￡75,000 grant and tailored business support. I founded Mat Zero with a simple belief: warmth is a human right, not a luxury. Heating is an everyday necessity, yet its inaccessibility for millions is rarely spoken about, and too little is done to change it. While often associated with extreme poverty, the struggle for safe and affordable heating is also a reality in countries like the UK, where rising energy costs leave many unable to heat their homes. Having grown up overseas with humanitarian parents, I witnessed vulnerable communities living in harsh conditions, where warmth wasn’t about comfort, it was about survival. These experiences shaped my ambition and commitment to applying design and innovation in clean, accessible heating solutions for those who need it most. That’s why I invented Mat Zero, a company with a product dedicated to delivering safe, energy-efficient warmth through innovative carbon heating solutions. Our first product, a heated mat, is lightweight, portable, and sustainably designed, offering warmth wherever it’s needed: at home, off-grid, or in emergency relief settings. Winning the Women in Innovation Award is an incredible honour and a testament to the hard work and dedication that has gone into building Mat Zero. It’s empowering for me and the team to be recognised alongside so many talented women pushing the boundaries of technology and innovation.
