What's your goal? 2?? Collect data ? How can you test your hypothesis? 3?? Analyse data ? What went well/not so well? 4?? Make a decision ? How to proceed? A career change feels like a leap of faith because there is a fundamental asymmetry between information and evidence. You are leaving a space that is all you know. Yet you know nothing about what’s on the other side of that leap. ? You can shrink that leap by developing an experimental mindset. Running experiments, testing ideas and collecting data, makes it feel like a more manageable step. When you follow your curiosity and experiment relentlessly, a path starts to emerge. A career pivot is not a failure. It's a sign of growth. In research, knowing when to pivot when you reach a dead-end is as important as knowing when to persevere. The same is true for your career. You shouldn't quit just because something is hard, but you should consider quitting if you are not getting anywhere or going in the wrong direction. Knowing when to persevere through obstacles can be a competitive advantage, so can knowing when to pivot. Sometimes things are not meant to be, circumstances change or you no longer value what your previous self wanted to be. There's no shame for making a change or wanting something else. It’s not easy and the path is uncertain. But the longer you entertain what's not for you, the longer you postpone what is.
