Today, we celebrate the 38th anniversary of Matson Logistics! We were created on February 3, 1987 as a “start-up” within Matson, Inc. called Matson Intermodal System. As one of the first intermodal marketing companies (IMC), we developed strong and long-lasting customer relationships with retail shippers, distributors, and manufacturers. We offered space on all Class I railroad networks, arranged for trucking, and offered consolidated customer service and billing. This model benefitted the railroads, which could focus on operations, equipment, and expansion, and our customers, who enjoyed a single point of contact and value-added services from an IMC. The years 2008-2013 saw the company rapidly grow our intermodal and highway brokerage services, and expand into warehousing, foreign trade zones, distribution, and Asia-based supply chain services. In 2012, the first fleet of 53-foot intermodal containers entered service, which helped expand our door-to-door service and Canada and Mexico offerings. In 2016, Span Alaska, the largest less-than-containerload freight forwarder serving Alaska, was acquired and became a subsidiary of Matson Logistics. In recent years, we have expanded our footprint in China, Vietnam, throughout Asia and South Asia, and opened a wholly owned subsidiary in Mexico to increase our in-country and cross-border services. We will see more changes to supply chains in the next three years than in the last 30. Technology is transforming and accelerating every point in our customers' sourcing and distribution networks. But what will never change is our commitment to our customers and our mission: To move freight better than anyone. #intermodal #3PL #logistics

Adriana Mu?oz Arrieta, our general director of Mexico, was recently interviewed by T21 magazine on the expansion of road and rail intermodal services within Mexico and cross-border to and from the U.S. and Canada. Matson Logistics has been providing intermodal service to and from Mexico for more than 20 years and is one of the largest providers with a dedicated fleet of 53-foot "smart" containers.
