In continued #celebration of #HispanicHeritageMonth, Olga Abinader led an event at the Cannon Free Library in Dehli, NY, last week. She read books to local school children and shared her family’s experiences as Dominican-Americans who came to the US in pursuit of the American Dream. “I always say that representation matters,” said Olga, “and for me, learning from my family members working in fields related to urban and #environmentalplanning was a major inspiration while I was growing up. Now, as a leader at Matrix, I have the privilege of promoting #diversity and inclusion as a #BIPOC woman in STEM. One of the best ways to advance these principles is by educating our youngest citizens.” At the Cannon Free Library, Olga and the kids discussed the importance of Hispanic Heritage Month (which began on September 15, a day marking the independence of five Latin American countries) and enjoyed a conversation about #Latinx culture and music.
