A MAD retreat: Our team spent last Friday in the New Canaan CT area visiting two architectural gems after a great brunch in the center of town. The tour of Philip Johnson's Glass House (1949) and property was followed by a visit to the SANAA wonderfully designed Grace Farms (2015) where we wandered the site and took in the colorful landscape! The team discussed these wonderfully detailed projects and appreciated their history as explained by the great guides. Where will we go next year?

As part of a multi-phased renovation at Columbia University, we carefully updated portions of the 14th and 15th floors at the School of International & Public Affairs. New conference rooms and offices elegantly responded to the original building's architecture by introducing large expansive glass surfaces and new materials that complemented the 1970's interiors. The newly renovated large multipurpose area overlooking NYC is ready for special events too! #renovation #architecture #education #interiors #collaboration #internationalaffairs

New York University requested that we design their Athletics Dept's main offices in a historic landmark building on NoHo’s Mercer Street. The site was strategically selected since it overlooks the recently completed Paulson Center, where NYU’s newest athletics facilities are located. Our team developed the project which included inspiring environmental graphics also designed by MAD. Always with an eye on sustainability, we carefully restored the existing wood floors which recall gymnasium interiors, while adding a series of carefully placed lines emphasizing its very familiar use for many sports.?The new spaces showcase the lesser known athletic side of NYU, and allows for future student-athletes to be inspired! We have recently added Public Health Solutions and their headquarters at 40 Worth Street, to our core portfolio of projects! As New York City's largest public health nonprofit, we support their prioritizing of 'Health Equity' and designed a space so that the PHS team can collaborate and continue to provide the much needed services to an expanding client base across the five-boroughs. Proudly we helped them reduce their real estate needs through efficient and responsible design, also highlighted by our teams interior design and environmental graphics. Yesterday evening, we celebrated with our client, Queens Community House at the ribbon-cutting for the Forest Hills Community Center. We fully renovated this 1970's building in the heart of Queens and it is now benefiting the local community through its daily use. An architect has the opportunity to transform everyday spaces into something more. For over two decades, one of our Senior Associates, Hilda Cohen, AIA has been working & advocating to transform NYC public spaces to be safer and more equitable for all ages. NYCDOT is hosting an Equity in Motion Summit this Friday, April 19 at the CUNY Graduate Center in Manhattan (1:30-2:45p). The summit is free of charge and will precede, DOT’s annual Car-Free Earth Day on April 20th. Hilda will be a panelist in “Winning Safe Streets for Every Family”, and will discuss her perspectives in creating an equitable space for youth in our urban structure. #biking #urbanism #equity #safestreets
