Innovation often lies at the crossroads of deep interconnected challenges. Not often do we get ~15 CSOs and Sustainability/Impact leaders together under one roof to candidly discuss solutions to some of the pressing interconnected climate challenges of late –????????????? ??????????????????????????????, ?????????????????? #????????????????????????, & #??????????????????????????????????. As much as there's unabated 'elitism' connotation to anything happening at/around #WEF #Davos, I've learnt that the Davos confluence does provide an unwarranted microcosm to tap into some forward-looking private-, public- and development sector leaders – if only curated well enough. Glad to have organised and led this private breakfast roundtable on the above themes on the #WEF2025 sidelines for Mati Carbon with gracious co-hosts the H&M Group and XPRIZE. Noting below some of the high-level buyer insights from the roundtable (will share a broader Davos 2025 reflections write-up later) – ????????????????????? ?????? ????????-?????????????? ???????? ???????? ?????? ???????????????????????????as per several buyers in the room –?if aiming to demonstrate corporate climate leadership. There's not much of 'either-or' option in short or long-term. They however need to be in line with the overall mitigation hierarchy for a corporate's net-zero target setting. ?? ???????????????????? ?????? ?????? ?????? ???????????? ?? ???????????????? ???????? is often one of the biggest challenge for the CSOs among several corporates –?when driving net zero target-setting and adopting novel interventions and pathways to achieve those. Linking those with inherent climate risks to core business lines and evolving carbon accounting are catalytic to overcome this to a good extent. ?? ???????????? ??????????????/????????????????????????'?? ???????? in addressing CDR scalability challenges, especially where social co-benefits are high –?partnering with donor capital can help in multiple ways: a) reduce cost curve of removal??(ever-thorny topic); and b) de-risk project finance and boost 'financial additionality' for #Scope3 interventions/offtakes (blended financing at transaction level). However, these require further education and intention towards catalytic partnerships. ?? ???????????? ???????? ??????????????-?????????? ???? ????????????????-?????????? ?????????????????(from corporates such as the INGKA Group and H&M Group) –?emphasising full circularity in sustainable sourcing, production and consumption besides decarbonisation. This also includes focus on regenerative and climate-resilient practices/technology adoption across both their small-scale ag value chains and natural capital assets. ?? ?????? ???????????? ??????????????: Several buyers shared the sentiment that EU CRCF is slow-moving in scaling up the CDR market to the next frontier. Similarly, #SBTi's awaited update on broader EACs from the earlier Net Zero Standard and #BVCM guidance was highlighted as key unlocks.

Mati Carbon has delivered 420 tons of CDR(Carbon Di-Oxide Removal) credits to Frontier, making this the #largest permanent ERW delivery from the global south??. This is an important landmark for the ERW industry and validates the immense potential of global south in contributing to permanent carbon removal while enabling climate adaptation to the vulnerable global south populations????. This follows Mati’s delivery of 50 tons in January 2024, making the total deliveries to Frontier to 470 tons with more deliveries coming up in the near future. ?? We are thrilled to announce that Mati Carbon has been selected as the winner for Phase II of the Bezos Earth Fund's $1M Greenhouse Gas Removal Ideation Prize. The competition, which sought innovative solutions for scaling greenhouse gas removal technologies, received more than 700 submissions from researchers, scientists, and innovators around the world and 13 winners were selected from them. ?? We are pleased to announce that Mati has expanded into Zambia???? and Tanzania????, where we’ve begun trials with our partner smallholder farmers. At Mati we believe our ERW technology represents an opportunity to create impact on three critical problems- ??Improve food security- Currently more than 25% population is currently facing acute food insecurity in these regions ??Improve soil health of degraded soils- Yields are a quarter of full potential due to sub optimal pH levels. ??Remove carbon permanently- With the right temperature and soil conditions, these regiosn have potential to remove millions of tons of carbon through ERW. We are enthusiastic to make a meaningful contribution in doing permanent carbon removal while building climate resilience for smallholder farmers. #impactatscale #ERW #CDR #MatiCarbon
