The festive period is a season of love, celebration and merriment. However not everyone can state the same especially for people from underprivileged communities and background. Some cannot afford balance diet which eventually leads to malnutrition. Malnutrition does not only affects our physical health but also negatively impacts our mental health. Response from the president of Africa Health Concern , Okello Ejedio : Malnutrition is a significant public health concern in Uganda, particularly among children under 5. The Lango region has some of the highest malnutrition rates in the country which affects over 30% of children under 5, leading to stunting, underweight, and increased risk of mortality. Africa Health Concern (AHC) aims to reduce malnutrition among children under 5 in the Lango region by improving household access to nutritious food, healthcare services, and economic empowerment. Malnutrition among children under 5 in the Lango region is high, with 30% of children suffering from stunting, 20% from wasting, and 15% from underweight. This is due to limited access to nutritious food, inadequate healthcare services, and low household income which is normally worst during Christmas sessions. Based on the above , Matermental is on a mission to provide balanced diet / nutritious meal ( breakfast and lunch ) for 100 children under the age of 8 in Northern Uganda ???? during this festive season. Recently, the Nigeria Diaspora Investment Summit ( NDIS) called and I answered to be the Interventionist, Healthcare at the just concluded summit. However, the unexpected happened just few hours while onboard ?? to ???? . There was an announcement by the air hostess “ Do we have medical personnel onboard “ ? Three of us , medical personnel stood up faster than the speed of light ready to intervene. It was a severe situation of a young adult with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) with much discomfort and non verbal. After taking brief but focused assessment and history on the passenger and from the mother, we were able to have the situation under control through pharmacological and non- pharmacological interventions. Although, this is not my first time intervening while onboard, but this particular experience was quite unique and opens opportunities for more conversations.
