This approach fosters a deeper understanding of content, focuses on essential curricula-based and FCPS Portrait of Graduate skills, inspires student engagement, and ensures readiness for real-world challenges.” MTC member Madison High School, part of the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) system, has focused its learning initiatives on skill mastery and competency-based learning. Their MAD Wings program gives students in 9th-12th grades the opportunity to create an MTC Learning Record and fully demonstrate the outcomes of their education both in and out of the classroom. “I chose to do the mastery learning record because I wanted to highlight who I was as a person outside of my grades and the person I was on paper. I wanted to showcase who I was through all the things I’m passionate about, and all of the things that make me who I am.” In the third video of their series, Nipmuc shows how the MTC Learning Record (MLR) allows students to communicate personalized stories about their learning journeys.
