One of the most common things that we hear from our MMSC candidates is that they're excited about a career in communication, but they're not sure about exactly what that career is yet. Many enter the program interested in advertising, public relations, journalism or content development, but hesitant to make a commitment to one specific field. We think of the MMSC program as a 'strength finder.' Through the students hands-on work with industry professionals, we help students to identify their natural talents and couple those God-given skills and abilities with career paths that enable them to thrive.

Hannah Biddlecome, a 2024 Master of Media and Strategic Communication graduate, recently returned from a once-in-a-lifetime filming trip to Uganda, where she enjoyed getting to know a local crew while taking in a lot of stunning scenery.? ? “I absolutely love that my work allows me the opportunity to experience new places and cultures while spreading the gospel through visual media,” she said. ? ? Hannah is a project coordinator at Grooters Productions in Holland. She said her job is different every day, but mainly involves communicating with clients, sending project approvals back and forth, working on set running a slate, or assisting in many different aspects of filming.? ? She graduated with her bachelor’s degree in film and media production in 2022, then finished her master’s degree in 2024.? ? While pursuing her master’s, she got experience in storytelling by working with Calvin’s Skylight Media Agency. She also got experience as an intern for the Kalamazoo Growlers, where she was a camera director. Leading the fully operational camera crew in a fast-paced sports environment solidified her to desire to continue that work in the future in any way she could, she said.? ? “Whether it’s sports, dramatic films, or advertising, I know I want to spend my days in the middle of a team working hard to create something awesome for the screen,” she said.? ? She said her education at Calvin helped show her how fluid and diverse her line of work can be, and continuing on in the master’s program after finishing her bachelor’s degree helped her stretch her creative potential. ? ? “The professors also allowed me to mold the curriculum to best fit my wants and needs in the professional field. I’m very grateful for how they facilitated my accomplishments both in and out of the classroom,” she said.?
