Thanks to the Massachusetts Commission on the Status of Persons with Disabilities for their partnership on two reports we recently published! One report examines employment of people with disabilities within Massachusetts State Government, and the other analyzes the benefit cliff effect. Access the full reports at?https://lnkd.in/et5ZJFmG
The Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development (EOLWD) Department of Economic Research, in partnership with the Massachusetts Permanent Commission on the Status of Persons with Disabilities, has released two important reports examining challenges that individuals with disabilities face in the workforce: Employment of Individuals with Disabilities in Massachusetts State Government Report: This report provides a detailed look at disability representation in state government. While state agencies employ a higher percentage of individuals with disabilities compared to the private sector, the report highlights several challenges: - Many employees may be under-reporting their disability status. - Younger workers with disabilities are significantly underrepresented. - Employees with disabilities tend to hold professional roles and have longer tenures, but retention remains a challenge. Report link: https://lnkd.in/eMaX-kux Disability Benefit Cliff Effects in Massachusetts Report: This report examines how an increase in earnings can sometimes lead to a loss of critical public benefits, creating financial instability. Key findings include: - SSDI recipients face steep benefit cliffs, where even a small income increase can result in a sudden loss of benefits. - SSI benefits phase out more gradually, but the loss of housing subsidies can still pose financial challenges. - Workers with dependents are disproportionately affected by benefit cliffs, making it harder to achieve long-term financial stability. Report link: https://lnkd.in/eCRvmXr8 These reports provide valuable data to help shape policies that support individuals with disabilities in accessing and maintaining meaningful employment without jeopardizing necessary benefits. Addressing these challenges is essential to building a more inclusive and equitable workforce.
