I was on a call recently with a former client turned mentor and we were talking about the purpose of social media. After chatting for a bit and expressing that I want to be authentic, while also not appearing too sales-y – he encouraged me to think about our company values, consider if we’re living them right now, and share what feels true to me about that journey. Well, here it goes, Jeff. 1. Have Fun. I believe in having fun at work. Not all jobs are fun but this one definitely can be, and while we buckle down and get it done for our clients, we often find the fun along the way. Chadwick Fortenberry (the king of the dad joke) does this all the time. He knows when it’s time to be serious, but always has a joke ready. 2. Give a S#!t. For professional reasons, we’ve changed the name of this one to “Care” Caring about each other, our clients, and the work we do. I care deeply about what we’re doing. All of us care, but Ryan Parrish REALLY cares. He’s creative and detail-oriented which are both great but he really wants to do incredible work at the end of the day. 3. Take Initiative. I'm still working on this but it is really important to me and my team to take the initiative to try new things, bring order to chaos, and go above and beyond for our clients. Dustin G., our Director of Post takes initiative. From elevating edits to writing SOPs, to keeping our server buttoned up with multifactor, ever-changing security protection, Dustin takes action to make us better. 4. Be Adaptable. In media production, particularly media production for live events, things change ALL. THE. TIME. We adapt to these changes (within reason) and work to find solutions rather than die on the hill of every shapeshifting production schedule. One teammate who has lived this fully over the last year is Libby Adkins. Libby has had 5 different bosses over the last 11 months. Shifting managers is not a best practice, but we’ve had a lot of change in the last year. She has rolled with the punches and kept pushing forward. 5. Be Humble. We set our egos aside to serve the shared goal of great work. One of our producers Rachel Paone is very humble. The project is always at the center of what she does, not her ego. That’s it. Thanks to the team for working to live these values. We’re not perfect at any of them but we always strive to get better. As I reflect, I ask myself why people hire us to do what we do. I think it’s our customer service and alignment with these values that keep our clients coming back. Although it’s not in our values I also like to think it’s just because we’re genuinely nice people. A lot of companies have values. It’s really important to me however that the team and I LIVE these values, so they guide not only our actions but also the way we feel about the work we’re doing. There’s a lot of change in the industry right now but it feels good knowing that these core values aren’t changing, and they help guide our team moving forward.
