MassHousing is a self-supporting not-for-profit public agency created in 1966 to support affordable homeownership and rental housing opportunities in Massachusetts. MassHousing does not use taxpayer dollars, but sells bonds to fund its programs. Since its inception, MassHousing has provided more than $29.5 billion in financing for homebuyers and homeowners, and for developers and owners of affordable rental housing. In recent years, MassHousing has also supported the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by contributing funds to offset budget cuts to state housing programs.

Nancy McDonald, MassHousing’s Director of Government Affairs, and Tony Richards, II, MassHousing’s Vice President of Equitable Business Development, attended the annual Legislative Conference of the National Council of State Housing Agencies (NCSHA) this week to advocate with the state’s Congressional Delegation on the key issues that drive MassHousing’s work – including the preservation of Private Activity Bonds and the expansion of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit.?Specifically, they educated members and their staff about the details of The Affordable Housing Credit and Improvement Act (AHCIA), which will be filed again in this session and which will make LIHTC even more effective in Massachusetts. They also advocated for the passage of the Neighborhood Homes Investment Act which would increase the production of affordable homeownership units. Thank you to Congressman McGovern, Congressman Neal, and the delegation's staff for their enduring support of MassHousing and the affordable housing ecosystem!
