MassDEP serves the Commonwealth by protecting natural resource areas that involve water, land and air. MassDEP is responsible for ensuring clean air and water, safe management and recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources. MassDEP enforces environmental laws, provides technical assistance to cities and towns, issues permits and licenses for activities near sensitive resources, inspects contaminated site cleanups, and partners with other federal and state agencies, municipal officials and environmental stakeholders.

Our MOSPRA program recently wrapped up their 2024 training schedule with their 108th ?? First Responder Training Exercise! ?? Emergency personnel from Chatham, Orleans, Eastham, U.S. Coast Guard, MassDEP's Southeast Regional Office (SERO), Nuka Research and Planning Group, LLC, Moran Environmental Recovery, LLC and the MassDOT Aeronautics drone team joined in a day of teamwork, preparation and hands-on training! Over the past 16 years, nearly 2,800 first responders have been trained through the MOSPRA Program to handle coastal oil spill emergencies. ???? With a career spanning more than two decades at MassDEP as well as her contributions and leadership extending beyond the Department, Assistant Commissioner Millie Garcia-Serrano's work has been a testament to environmental stewardship and leadership in ensuring a cleaner, safer Massachusetts. ????? Founded in 1990 as the Association for Environmental Health of Soils, the AEHS Foundation provides an international forum for over 600 members, industry experts, researchers and governmental organizations to exchange information and advance awareness of environmental issues. Fuller Award for her outstanding commitment to clean and safe water! The award is presented to federal or state regulators best exemplifying Jim Fuller’s dedication to the water supply profession. ?? ?? As director of the Division of Municipal Services, Maria Pinaud oversees the State Revolving Fund (SRF) for MassDEP, helping to make it more accessible through education on the process and direct support to applicants. She has championed grant programs for water suppliers, including those for asset management, service line inventory, and cybersecurity.
