Let's talk about the importance of speaking up and taking up space, but doing it with intention. I find myself in a lot of white spaces and BIPOC spaces where I may be the only Filipino in the room. I think I've gotten pretty skilled at balancing active listening AND speaking up to share my stories. I am constantly elevating and amplifying other people's voices, that I often forget to elevate and amplify my own. So when I attend conferences, I push myself to either ask a question or share my thoughts. I realized that I am the Filipino voice I've been waiting to hear. Thank you to MassCUE for capturing this moment of me sharing the importance of names, specifically the importance of MY name. My mom is smiling proudly right now, I bet, along with my ancestors. I love this person that I'm becoming. Thank you to Modern Classrooms Project for helping me find my voice.
