With Governor Healey's signature, we are embarking on another decade of innovation for patients through partnership and collaboration. On behalf of the MassBio community, I'd like to thank Governor Healey, Lieutenant Governor Driscoll, and Secretary Hao for spearheading the third iteration of the Life Sciences Initiative and our industry’s champions in House and Senate leadership for getting it across the finish line this session. The continued investment in infrastructure across the state and increases to the proven-effective Life Sciences Tax Incentive Program ensure that Team Massachusetts will have the tools to support innovation and the creation of lifesaving medicines and therapies for patients around the world while also lengthening our lead economically here at home.
A momentous day for our ecosystem and our Commonwealth and a new chapter for the Massachusetts Life Sciences Initiative. Today, Governor Maura Healey signed into law the Mass Leads Act, an economic development bill that will build on the success of our renowned life sciences sector. The package will create jobs, support business growth, expand workforce development programs and support rural and regional economic development initiatives. Governor Healey will host a ceremonial signing event in the near future. The legislation positions the Healey-Driscoll Administration to begin executing on the billion-dollar initiatives. This includes a $500 million capital reauthorization of the state’s Life Sciences Initiative over 10 years and an expansion of a tax credit program designed to spur job creation and growth in the life sciences industry. Senator Sal DiDomenico, who represents Kendall Square and serves as co-chair of the Life Sciences Caucus, delivered these remarks during the Senate’s debate on the economic development bond bill containing the third iteration of the Massachusetts Life Sciences Initiative (LSI). His remarks centered on the value of this industry for the economy and, more importantly, for patients like his own mother. Following debate in both chambers, the House and Senate voted to send the long-awaited package to Governor Healey for her signature.?

Two MassBio events hosted within 17 hours of each other were very different in most ways but had an essential common thread: patients. On Thursday night I had the pleasure of welcoming our latest #MassBioDrive cohort for their Demo Day, a culmination of the 8-week Drive accelerator program. It was exciting to hear about their science and see the five companies present to a room of potential investors and strategic partners that could help them. And just this morning we were back in the same room for the annual Patient Advocacy Summit. It was a packed agenda and room filled with emotional stories from parents, advocates, and leaders about fighting for their children, speaking with lawmakers, being a patient-centric biopharma company, and delivering on #healthequity. These two back-to-back convenings emphasize two foundational pieces of MassBio’s mission and Vision 2030 strategic roadmap: 1) support for the smallest and most innovative startups and 2) keeping patients at the center of everything we do and how we support our members. Thank you to the community for coming out to both and for all that you do. #PatientDriven #MassBioPatientAdvocacySummit
