Regulatory and disciplinary body governing the practice of law in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
关于我们
The Board of Bar Overseers and the Office of the Bar Counsel were established by the Supreme Judicial Court in 1974 as independent administrative bodies to investigate and evaluate complaints against lawyers. Although both the Board and Bar Counsel are official bodies subject to the supervision of the Supreme Judicial Court, no public funds are spent to support them. The Bar Counsel's and the Board's expenses come solely from the annual registration fees paid by lawyers.

We’re hiring!?The Office of Bar Counsel is looking for a new Assistant Bar Counsel (ABC) to prosecute ethics cases. Why would you want to be a disciplinary attorney? ? You are in charge of your own caseload of disciplinary matters that derive from alleged misconduct in all types of legal matters, from federal court civil litigation to state court murder trials; from probate court divorce proceedings to USPTO patent prosecution; from bankruptcy to immigration; and much more. ? You investigate the cases, exercise prosecutorial discretion, first chair trials before the Board of Bar Overseers, recommend discipline to the SJC single justice, and argue appeals before the Court. ? You staff the ethics hotline once a month, discuss ethics issues with your colleagues, give talks, and write articles on legal ethics issues. ? You deal directly with complainants, interact with other state and federal agencies, and uphold the integrity of the legal profession by protecting consumers from the bad apple lawyers.
