  • For Women’s History Month we will recognize women-owned businesses throughout Massachusetts. When you actively and intentionally support women-owned businesses it creates a meaningful way to celebrate the contributions of women in society, by directly contributing to their economic empowerment and visibility, while also highlighting the vital role women entrepreneurs play in the community. There are so many ways to support women this month rather your action is big or small. You can also support their businesses by simply sharing their social media pages to our community, advertising their business through word of mouth, and visiting their websites and storefronts to garner online and in-person visibility. ? You may ask, why does this matter? It promotes and encourages the following: ?? Economic empowerment – By choosing to shop at women-owned businesses, you’re directly injecting capital into enterprises run by women, helping them grow and create more opportunities for themselves and others. ?? Visibility and recognition – Highlighting women-owned businesses during Women's History Month and beyond raises awareness about the challenges and achievements of female entrepreneurs, inspiring others to pursue their own business ventures. ?? Promotes gender equality – Supporting women-led businesses is a concrete step towards promoting gender equality in the economic sphere. ?? Community impact – By patronizing local women-owned businesses, you are supporting the growth and vitality of your community.? ? When all women voices, aspirations and goals are empowered, we create a world that promotes inclusion, gender equity and diversity. As you celebrate Women’s History Month, we encourage you to reflect on how you support and recognize the women in your direct circles and your commitment to creating a world that empowers, celebrates, values and respect all women. • On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, the Dorchester Regional Office had the opportunity to volunteer at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA-Angell) Animal Care and Adoption Center in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts. The staff arrived at 9:00am and was greeted by Jillian who is the Volunteer Coordinator of MSPCA-Angell and educated the staff on the structure of MSPCA-Angell and took a mini tour of the renovated facilities, while assigning different tasks to the group at each stop. The assigned tasks were to sort, wash, and fold donated linens, clean and organize storage rooms, clean out kennels, organize and move animal food from delivery truck and prepare food for animals for the day, and pick up feces around the premises. At the end of the volunteer event, the staff was able to meet Chicken who is an Irish Wolfhound, and a pillar of the MSPCA-Angell community by helping new puppies get acclimated to the facilities when they arrive. ? The MSPCA-Angell is an organization that has been the forefront of animal protection and veterinary care, providing hands-on care for thousands of animals each year. • In honor of National Black Literacy Day, which is today, February 14, 2025, we would like to recognize Cade Bentley, author of Where Wild Peaches Grow: A Novel. Cade Bentley, also known as Abby L. Vandiver, enjoys writing mysteries and combining her love of storytelling and history that keeps her readers at the edge of their seats. ? We are kicking off Lottery and Friends Read Book Club 2025 with reading her book for the month of February, Where Wild Peaches Grow: A Novel. This novel is about a woman finding her way after being abandoned by a man she loves and betrayed by family. This novel explores the complexities of family and love, and how life forces us to face certain realities regardless of whether we are ready or not. Cade Bentley creates a space with this book to encourage conversations on setting boundaries, storytelling, and exploring the valleys of difficult conversations. For the next couple of weeks, the book club will read and discuss this book in its entirety by attending virtual meetings that create a space for dialogue, connectedness, and peer engagement. ? #lotteryandfriendsread #bookclub #MSLC #MassLottery??
