The 30/60/90 Rule ?? - A.K.A How to start that new job
It's already been two months since the start of my Massachusetts Promise Fellowship at my host site Breakthrough Greater Boston! Just as these two months have flown by, starting a new job of any kind can feel like a fast race to figure everything out, which is both exciting and overwhelming.
So, if anyone else in my network is in that position (or soon to be!), the 30/60/90 rule helps to turn that sprint to a sustainable jog to prevent potential burnout and build a foundation for success.
This framework focuses on setting specific, attainable goals for the first 30, 60, and 90 days of your new role. It provides a structured approach to learning, contributing, and making an impact with your new team!
Here's a breakdown & My Plan:
?? 30 Days: Get to know your community! Focus on learning about your new role, team, and company culture.
??Orientation: Attended orientation on Americorps, Northeastern University, and MPF culture and organizations.
??Professional Development: Received training on youth development, inclusive student advising, and SEL skills.
??Host Site Introduction: Met with staff across departments at Breakthrough and toured the organization's workspaces to learn about my role and the organization.
??Student Engagement: Began working directly with students and families through check-ins.
??? 60 Days: Add a bit more on to your plate. Start taking on more responsibilities and contributing to team projects.
??Recruitment: Assisted with efforts to grow student population in the program.
??Workshop Planning: Planned and developed afterschool club workshops that you will be leading.
??Staff Interview Committe: Contributed to the interviewing process for new Breakthrough fellows.
??Goal Setting: Outlined service year goals and projects for my fellowship.
????90 Days: Now you're getting into a groove! Establish yourself as a valuable team member and start making a significant impact.
??Continue Recruitment
??Afterschool Programming: Begin leading workshops for your cohort.
??Connect with MPF Fellows: Attend community building events and retreat.
??Explore the food scene: Find the best cheap eats in every Boston neighborhood (specifically Hyde Park and Roslindale) as a part of my personal service year project.
