Exciting news for the nonprofit sector!
Kudos to Massachusetts Nonprofit Network (MNN) for their state-level advocacy on two key changes to support the #Massachusetts #nonprofit sector, passed in the Econ Dev bill signed by Governor Healey last week: ?? First, and with gratitude to CHAPA for bringing the idea to MNN's attention, nonprofit board?members may now receive a modest stipend of up to $500 for their service without losing state statutory?civil personal liability protection. Lawmakers recognized the importance of providing a modest stipend to those who might not otherwise be able to serve because of financial constraints (childcare/caregiving, lack of time off from work, transportation, etc.). It is the hope that this provision helps to further facilitate?equity and increased representation of those most impacted by systemic inequities, and those closest to the solutions, on nonprofit boards. ?? Second, working collaboratively with the MA Society of CPA's, MNN advocated for raising the thresholds for submitting reviewed and audited financial statements to the Attorney General. Now, nonprofits with $500K+ of gross support and revenue will be required to submit reviewed?statements ($200K previously) and nonprofits with $1M+ will be required to submit audited statements ($500k previously). These changes will do a great deal to alleviate a financial burden on small to medium nonprofits and result in more funds being allocated directly to furthering the nonprofit's mission. #economicdevelopment #philanthropy #advocacy #socialimpact #audit #financialstatements #boardofdirectors #equity

Last night, MNN's CEO, Jim Klocke, attended MWNN - MetroWest Nonprofit Network's film screening of 'Uncharitable'. The film’s message challenges our traditional ideas about giving, and calls on us to reimagine a new way forward. Thank you to MWNN for all of their hard work to ensure that this event was a success, and for providing a space to have important conversations on the state of philanthropy!
??Can one night inform, inspire, and engage??? “We say a resounding YES!" A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for this week’s Uncharitable film screening. We are so grateful for your overwhelming support! This conversation about the complexities of philanthropy is still underway and we are more motivated than ever to keep connecting, learning, and working together! #bettertogether #MeaningfulMetroWest

Can you future-proof your next site? In this month's edition of MNN's Nonprofit 411 blog, Johanna Bates of DevCollaborative LLC shares who (or what) is to blame for a faulty website, and proposes solutions to remedying the problem. ??
